Affordable Ways To Decorate For Fall

Did You Know?  Currently happening in Austin Texas is a Boil-Water Advisory, defined as: “A boil-water advisory or boil-water order is a public health advisory or directive given by government or health authorities to consumers when a community’s drinking water is, or could be, contaminated by pathogens.” (via)

With fall comes changes – cooler weather, darker nights, holidays & cozier days.  You don’t have to make major home adjustments to have your living environment start feeling festive either.  Don’t feel the pressure to start doing a full home remodel every season – think of it as more of a switch from pool floats to pumpkin decorating.

One thing I realized last night as I was walking through West Elm.  I am absolutely not an interior design person.  I love an aesthetically pleasing home, enjoy decorating, but absolutely do not like shopping for home interiors.  Because I love shopping for clothing, I assumed I would like shopping for new home items, but that’s a firm NO.  Ugh, if I have to look at one more desk or dining chair I may just ship myself the first item that appears on my Amazon Prime search results.

Having said that, I’m all about a cute accessory that’s affordable & easy.  That’s the tips I’m sending you today because even these small items can create an entirely different feeling inside your home.  With all the changes that come with fall, having an environment that matches keeps you feeling refreshed, awake & energized.

Flowers:  I’m a big fan of fresh flowers because they brighten up your living space & create life.  Literally.  Keep your living space alive with bright, lively, warm fresh flowers.  For Fall, go with fall colors & flowers.  Trader Joe’s is a great place to find seasonal flowers at an affordable price. If you’re used to getting one type of flower or color try a fall arrangement instead.  I always go for pink or white flowers but picked up bright yellow at Trader Joe’s & it noticeably makes a difference when you walk in the front door.  I’ve recently started a mission to create the perfect bouquet by myself

Pumpkins:  Even if you’re not carving them, having a few little pumpkins in your space screams fall & it’ll get your mind there too.  This year I bought a few little white ones & placed them around my flowers, near the blanket basket & as the center of our dining table.  You can keep pumpkins around until Thanksgiving too!  Think outside your regular orange carving pumpkin used only for Halloween.  Think small, large, white, yellow, green, orange – whatever works with the space you already have.

Wood Basket:  It’s fall, and winter is coming.  Bring out the blankets and let them be seen!  This season, don’t stash your blankets in a closet, instead go to Home Goods and buy yourself a basket to store your blankets in.  I bought a super huge one and threw my blankets & pillows in it, then put the basket out in our living room.  Having a basket of blankets & pillows makes the room feel cozy & ready for warm cuddles.  There’s literally no better feeling coming the cooling temps of fall or the cold winter than big, comfy blankets ready to be wrapped in.

Easy, right?  Although they might seem like obvious ideas, they’re so easily overlooked.  I get overwhelmed with the $100 glass pumpkin & $700 matching skeleton dinning set, that I forget it doesn’t have to be that complicated.

As for interior design – maybe someday when I have a house that I’ve invested in & really want to focus on furnishing it I’ll be interested in sofa shopping?  I can’t imagine it, but life tends to change our interests as we go, no?

Have a great week everyone!

Be thoughtful
