Washington DC; in 1 Day!

Did You Know?  “Washington, DC is a very international city, home to more than 175 embassies and international cultural centers. Fifteen percent of DC residents speak a language other than English.” (via)

Late, but not forgetting – WASHINGTON DC Pictures!

The US Capital in Washington DC

I wasn’t going to write an entire post on Washington DC because we were there for ONE day, but it was arguably the best day of our trip so I wanted to share & explain why! Because – spread JOY.

As you may or may not know, Wafiq & I went to Charlottesville, Virginia for one of our friends wedding’s.  I’ll get more into the hidden gem that is Virginia & also my ruthlessly honest opinions on traditional weddings coming up next week.  Because, wow – do I have some thoughts to share.

But first, Washington DC.

If you’ve ever looked at the state of Texas on a map, you’ll notice it’s too big.  And I live in Austin, smack dab in the middle.  In order to get to another state & through desert, I either need a plane or an RV type situation.    When I looked up Charlottesville, VA on a map & noticed how close cool cities were, I got real envious.  These people are so lucky!  They can explore new places all the time!  I’m sure a lot of Europe is the same way, probably even other countries.  Central America, I’m looking at you!

We seized the opportunity because both Wafiq & I have never been to Washington DC & kind of nerd out on that secret political & CIA world.  Neither of us are very political & neither of us are lawyers of any kind – but we do watch Scandal.

The BEST suggestion I have if you go to the East Coast & decide to spend just one day in Washington DC, rent a bike a cruise around.  Although we didn’t have time for many of the museums, we were able to spend the entire day outside enjoying the weather & seeing the city.  Because there are incredibly iconic buildings & history in this area, just taking the bike around tickled our Washington Dc pickle – without overly exhausting us.

I researched the best & perfect things to do in 1 day.  Had a jam packed agenda, ready to execute.  But decided to ride around instead.  It was perfect.

Washington DC: What We Did In 1 Day:

Stayed:

Hotel Hive:  this was our first time in a Micro Hotel & it was perfect for the day!  Super clean, friendly staff, Instagram worthy.  They also had a rooftop lounge, coffee bar, and pizza shop.  Really cool, trendy & a fun micro experience. (<<see what I did there)

Ate:

Founding Farmers:  I made reservations for dinner & we went to town on the menu.  I hate to admit this (but will to free my guilt) a little gluttony happened here.  Which Wafiq & I both HATE.  But it was a one time thing & the menu looked killer!  We put our morals aside & went in on it.

Good Stuff Eatery:  Stopped here for Burgers at lunch.  Located on “M Street” in Georgetown, which we’re told is popular so we got to knock out 2 birds with 1 stone.  Efficiency is always the goal.

Baked & Wired:  We went because cupcakes are a trend in DC?  As if we needed dessert after our burgers, we stopped in. Really cool place, didn’t know it was so “weed-y”?  But we were into it, even bought a few cool hats that discretely show 4:20.  Like, do I need to start smoking weed?  Apparently America is.

Did:

Bikes:  You can rent them everywhere!  It was really easy to do.  We could easily drop them off if we ever wanted to stop & walk around.  We almost died ONLY one time too!  (We’re not used to biking on the street.)  But, biking, was hands down our best decision of this trip.

US Botanical Garden:  1 of the two places we walked through.  I’m admittedly obsessed with lush flowers so I had to.  & I loved it.  I think Wafiq’s starting to like flowers too, how can you not??  I’m still aggressively trying to get a shirt w a flower or two into his wardrobe, stay tuned.

National Space & Air Museum:  I heard this museum was cool, & it was.  There were real, big ass missiles inside that were horrifying.  There were also drones, and other things you only read or hear about on the news today. Seeing them in person was a learning experience & put a visual to a word.  I’m more into seeing present day things like this than seeing old, historic artifacts. Kill me?

WORE:

Hunter X Target:  I’m putting this out there one last time because these jackets we wore throughout the entire trip were so helpful to have, and they’re at Target!  They’re limited addition so go get them! I just saw them at Target last night so I know they’re still out there.  They fold up into a bag so we would throw them in our backpack when it started getting hot outside.   Everytime we had them on we would receive a compliment.  I almost felt like we were scamming people.  This jacket?  We pulled out of a tiny bag?  That Wafiq wore yesterday?  That’s $30?  SO GOOD.  Go get one, or give them for gifts before they’re gone!

Brandy Melville: I also brought a few different Brandy Melville sweaters.  Did you guys know this brand is a ONE SIZE only situation?  How do they get away with that?  Luckily, the sweaters do fit me pretty well; which is convenient because I happen to love them.  I’ve been wearing them often because they’re so cute.  (Heart Sweater: Here //  Similar Blue Stripe Sweater:  Here)

Sorry it’s taken me so long to get anything up here! I’ve been working like a crazy person trying to help Wafiq get caught up with work.  And time sure does have a way of flying by.

OH!  I’m also going to write about our meet up with Wafiq’s aunt while we were in DC – I decided it was too sweet of a story to shove in this post, it deserved it’s own.

Have a great rest of the week friends! Go out & be thoughtful, always!

Xx
