Clean Beauty Switch Out – So Far

Out with the toxic products, in with the clean ones!  I find it a little tricky to bring you on my Clean Beauty journey.  I have so much to say & share!  I debated only sharing my favorites, but that could take years, so I thought it would be worth bringing you through the trial & errors.

This should not freak you out OR overwhelm you.  I mean if it freaked you out a little bit, I guess that could be a good thing?  Kind of like anxiety – a little dose can keep a small fire burning under you.  So more importantly, this shouldn’t overwhelm you.  Luckily, when I started my journey with a cleaner lifestyle I focused primarily on food & didn’t even consider anything else.  That was to my advantage because food alone can be overwhelming.  When that was all buttoned up it was like the clouds parted & gave me the next piece of information – toxic beauty.  Once I went down the rabbit hole of ingredients in beauty AND figured out ways to better understand them?  There was no turning back.  OF COURSE, I’m not going to put battery acid on my skin.  You know what I mean?  I’m not devoted enough to anything in my life to constantly let it be harming me.  Definitely not a relationship or human being so of course not a pretty, expensive moisturizer.  Like, I’ll take the wrinkles, thnkssss.

It’s going to take me a hot minute to have all my products switched out with new ones that I truly love.  That process takes a ton of time & freaking money.  So I’ll take you with me so you can see what I’ve been trying, maybe it’ll help you relate?  Like, we can do this together.  Also, you can see the products I’ve decided to skip or don’t like & maybe don’t start your journey with them?

Let’s do this.

Clean Beauty Switch Out

Foundation:

Tried: Pacifica Alight Clean Foundation, you can find it at Target or Whole Foods.  I do love the dewy finish from this foundation, the color seems to change a little once it’s on my skin so I’m having trouble finding the right color.  I also don’t know how to figure out how “toxic” this foundation is.  I can’t find a rating anywhere.  All that aside, I actually like this foundation so it might be a good option if you’re not into Burt’s Bees.
Favorite: Burt’s Bee’s Goodness Glows Liquid Foundation – hello!  Welcome to the obvious.  Check out the reasons why, HERE.

Mascara:

Tried: Juice Beauty PHYTO-PIGMENTS Ultra-Natural Mascara & W3ll People Expressionist Mascara.  I liked Juice Beauty mascara but hated the wand!  I could NOT get the mascara on my lashes without also getting it all over my eyelid.  Hard pass.  W3ll People was ok, however, it stung my eyeballs everynight I took it off so also a hard pass for me.
Favorite: Burt’s Bees Natural Nourishing Mascara – I didn’t want this to be the case because how can I be so invested in one brand?  Like, uncreative.  But it works just as good as any other, more toxic mascara, it’s affordable, easy to find & I happen to absolutely love it you guys.  I have commitment issues, & I’m committed to this mascara.
On my list: Honestly, I don’t see myself trying another mascara for a while, Burt’s Bees does the trick for me.  Consider this category buttoned up.

Concealer:

Tried: Mineral Fusion Liquid Concealer, Burt’s Bees Concealer, Morphe Fluidity Full-Coverage Concealer – both the Mineral Fusion & Burt’s Bees concealers are simply, okay.  They don’t lay on my skin the way my comparable concealers do & tend to break up throughout the day even if I set them with powder.  Which, if something’s going to break up on my skin & look patchy?  My own naked ass skin can accomplish that. Morphe Fluidity Full-Coverage Concealer is a curveball that I noticed is rated pretty well as far as toxins are concerned.  The concealer itself works GREAT, I’ll probably use this one from time to time.  My only concern, is truly understanding the ingredients here.  I’m not a scientist.
Favorite: W3ll People Bio Correct Multi-Action Concealer – so far this is my fav concealer.  It does a great job with coverage & doesn’t break up throughout the day.  The ONLY con that I’ve noticed – It’s very challenging to keep from creasing under my eye.  I really have to pack on a powder over the concealer in those areas.  BUT, this is the concealer I’m using & pretty happy with at the moment.

Eye Shadow:

Tried:  Burt’s Bees Eye Shadow Palette – I tried to make this happen but was ultimately left unsatisfied.  The colors in the Burt’s Bees Palette don’t blend well & once you get it on your eyelid, it creases throughout the day.  Listen!  If makeup is hard for you, you’re probably using the wrong products.  For example, with eyeshadow, you need a product that will blend easily & stay put throughout the day.  Otherwise?  You’re not going to be happy with the result, and it’s not even your fault. The quality of the eye shadow is way more important than you’d think to achieve your goal.
Favorite: Beautycounter Palette (sold out) – as of now I’ve been using the blush from a Beautycounter palette as an eyeshadow.  I’m still at a loss for something I love, so I’ve been going without any eyeshadow recently.    This is the hardest product for me to surrender because I have A LOT of eye shadows that I love.  They blend, they’re pretty, expensive & I love them.  So excuse me while I mourne the loss & hunt for something better… but have yet to find.

Bronzer:

Favorite: Beautycounter Radiant All Over Bronzer (Dune) – & I haven’t tried anything else!  It’s working, so I haven’t prioritized finding another one.  This bronzer blends well & does exactly what I need from it.  The only reason I would look for another bronzer is to find something in a slightly different shade or creamy texture.
On my list: W3ll People Bio Bronzer Baked Powder, Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer (Saddle),

Powder:

Tried: Burt’s Bees Mattifying Powder Foundation, I actually like using this powder to set my foundation & it’s been working pretty well.  I have pretty dry skin & this can make it feel even drier, for someone with oily skin, this is probably a great option.
Favorite:  I’m still looking for one I really like…
On My List: Mineral Fusion Foundation Pressed Powder, W3ll People Bio Baked Brightening Powder

Blush:

Favorite: Beautycounter Satin Powder Blush – I’ve been using the colors from the Beautycounter Palette I have (sold out).  And as I’ve mentioned, I’m using the blush from this palate for my eyelids, but I’m using another blush from the palette for my cheeks.  It’s been working so I haven’t been in a rush to try anything new.

Eye Liner:

Favorite: Burt’s Bees Nourishing Eyeliner, it’s so good!  What can I say!  It glides on without pulling my precious eye skin.  (My eye skin is extra precious from all my crying.  LOL!) It’s affordable, easy to find, and stays put throughout the day.

Lips:

Tried: Beautycounter Lip Gloss, Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm – all the natural lip products I’ve tried are awesome!  They each serve a purpose.  For an easy, everyday color I use the Burt’s Bees Chapstick.  But I love the Beautycounter lipgloss when I want a shine.  Truly happy with everything I’ve tried so far.
Favorite: Beautycounter Sheer Lipstick – you already know.  No matter how many lip products I try, I always come back to this one.  I want all the colors.  More (here).
On my list: Burt’s Bees Satin Lipstick (blushed basin)

Clean Beauty

And that’s where I’m at!  WOOFTA, cleaning out all your products is a TRIP!  Like a major, global trip!  I’ve been working patiently with one product at a time.  Not just on my face, but the dishes, washing machine, cleaning products, feminine care – everything!  It’s fun for me.  I’ll share as I go because we can control the market if we vote with our dollar, so I need you to rally.  Buy things you’ll allow in or on your body & the billionaires will have to start paying attention.  Muah fuckers!  {I’m spicy today.  I just finished reading Thank you For My Service in one single day & feel like a literal male right now.  That book was… vibrant.}

Also worth noting, I did a HUGE beauty haul at Whole Foods this weekend.  YOU GUYS.  They had a sale on all their beauty products for 35% off!! I only found out Sunday night, like an hour before closing, I rushed the aisles like I was on a game show.  Needless to say… I gotss the productsss.  Face masks, toners, moisturizers, face wash – everything really.  I’m broke now.

If you have any products that I didn’t mention, please share!  You can see I have some gaps that need to be closed so lemme know what you guys are finding!

Have a great week, I love u

Be thoughtful
Xx

  1. Ok – I’ll need to try some of these. I do like the burt’s bees tinted lip balm, I use them all the time, and one I’ve reordered that I love is Thrive Causemetics brilliant eye brightener. I’ve been wanting to try some of their other products as well but haven’t yet. My next one to tackle I think is my foundation, that one scares me.

    1. Oh and I’ve been using the burt’s bee’s mascara – I’m surprised how much I like it!

    2. Ooo Thrive brightener?! So interesting, I haven’t even heard of that. I already googled it, I’ll have to add it to my list. Switching out products is a pain because it takes a while, but if you go product by product it’s also pretty fun… 🙂
