4 Quick Hairstyles for Long Hair

Finding quick hairstyles to throw in my long hair is about the only thing I can tolerate.  I’ve played with curling it or finding new ways to style it but I’m honestly a 3-second girl when it comes to hair.

Although, one thing you’ll rarely hear my brag about?  Hair.  I’ve never felt like I knew what to do.  My hair grows rapidly which stresses me out enough to never keep a short haircut.  Do you know how often I’d have to be in a salon chair?  And that’s not my favorite place if we’re being honest.

If you’re like me, and want the quickest ways to make your hair look presentable, these styles are for you.  Think messy, rather than clean? Maybe a few days without a wash…

I’m not going to lie, these aren’t inventions.  You know, I didn’t invent the top knot.  I wanted to show you how I get these styles in my hair because everyone’s hair is different.  How one person does a top knot in their hair might be different than what works in yours.

Also, video?!  If you only knew how hard Wafiq & I laughed while I made my first video for Baja Basics.  It’s so much harder than it looks to talk into a CAMERA!  I give any “YouTuber” major credit because it looks way easier than it is.  If you haven’t watched my video for Baja Basics Rose Water, go see it HERE.  Give them some love you guys!  They’re the absolute sweetest for recognizing I’m already obsessed with rose water, and then reaching out to ask me to share.

Because I laughed so hard making that video, I decided to make another one with these hairstyles.  Take a peek!  I didn’t use sound for a reason.  When I learned how to braid, I literally watched people.  No one explained each step, you’d be surprised how much you can learn just by using your eyes!  (OR, you can read how I style my hair in the descriptions below.)

Half Up:

I wear my hair half up all the time because it doesn’t matter the condition it’s in.  Oily, dirty, random curls, super straight – literally doesn’t matter.  I grab a small amount of hair that’s framing my face & secure it with a clear little plastic.  The tiny clear plastic bands make this hairstyle clean & simple – great for an everyday look.   I make sure it’s not perfect, the messier the better.  I prefer the little flyaways, they distract from any extra oil or kinks.  After it’s tied back I pull it loose a little around the top of my head so the ponytail isn’t too tight looking.  Think, freedom.

Top Knot:

The hairstyle I get complimented on the most & OMG I’m embarrassed to admit that.  The top knot is so easy & your hair can be in it’s WORST condition – this style will still look good.  All you have to do is pull your hair into the highest ponytail you can, make sure it’s snug tight.  I like to pull a few pieces a little loose around the top of the head, again to make it look like it’s not too tight or perfect.  {I’m a fan of baby hairs.}  I twist the ponytail first, then wrap the twist in a coil around the top of my head & secure the end back into the ponytail.  If I need to, I’ll add a bobby pin, but even that sounds like work.

Low Bun:

This has rapidly become my new go-to.  It works when your hair is oily & you have NO time (or patience) to wash your hair but you need to look professional ASAP.  Perfect for the office!  I part my hair smack dab in the middle, pull it into a very low ponytail – making sure it’s snug tight.  Similar to the high bun, I twist it first in the ponytail, then I wrap it around my ponytail and slip the end back inside the ponytail to secure.  If I need to add a bobby pin to make sure it won’t fall out, I do that too.  This whole thing takes 2 seconds & it looks professional enough to slide into any office, even if you woke up 5 minutes ago.

French Braid:

I learned how to French Braid at my summer daycare in the 2nd grade.  I watched another girl braid her friend’s hair during “reading time” every afternoon.  I stared at her long enough that I figured it out.  I went home, grabbed a Barbie, practiced a few times, then took a neighborhood child & tried it on her head.  It worked!  Since then, it’s like riding a bike & I’ve always been able to do it.  My point is, if I can learn how to french braid in the 2nd grade by watching another girl do it – you can learn too.

Don’t overthink it.  Don’t worry if the braid isn’t perfect, tight or starting at the right spot on your head.  Just keep braiding. Practice on someone else’s head first if possible, it’s easier to learn that way so you can see what you’re doing.

Easy Hairstyles for Long Hair

I might be writing this to a very sophisticated audience that will disregard these quick hairstyles but there has to be one other person like me!  As easy & messy as all these styles sound, I’m so comfortable in them.  Whenever I put a product in my hair or use a ton of tools, I’m uncomfortable & sad.  Trust me, comfort equals confidence.  And confidence equals drop-dead gorgeous.

If you have any quick styles, share them below!  🙂

Have a great week!  Love you

be thoughtful

  1. Is it bad that I wear my hair in a top knot every single day? Probably. I dream about being able to wear a braid but never learned and always quit after two minutes of trying, so I’m always jealous of anyone who has braids in their hair haha.
