Texas BBQ Series: Part II. Lambert’s Downtown Barbecue & Rudy’s
Texas BBQ Series: Part II. Lambert’s Downtown Barbecue & Rudy’s
We’re getting goooooooooood this week with Texas BBQ. I have to admit, I’m liking this series. The food was INSANELY delicious @ Lambert’s and Rudy’s so I’m excited to take you there with me!
First up: Lambert’s Downtown Barbecue
Now THIS is my kind of BBQ. Probably the fanciest way I can imagine BBQ being. At the bottom of their menu it says {Fancy BBQ?}. MMMMM HHHMmmm hunny.
Even the fanciest of us can manage to grub on some BBQ here.
The restaurant is downtown Austin and located on the corner in a cute building spread over 2 floors.
I would recommend making a reservation, this is not your typical Texas BBQ where you go to the counter and order meat by the pound. Lambert’s is an entire dining experience. You’ll need a table, and I believe reservations fill up.
We happened to go during their happy hour and MY LOOOORD they have a fantastic happy hour.
Our table had: Boar Ribs, Pulled Pork Plate, Potato Salad, Beans, Brisket Sandwich, & Mac & Cheese / For Drinks: Old Fashion & Margarita
EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT.
But the menu was creative: Deviled eggs, Green Chili Queso, Archiote Seared Chickpeas and Goat Cheese, Fried Green Tomatoes, Housemade Jalapeno Hot Links, Jumbo Gulf Shrimp & Grits… and more.
Something for everyone. When I go back, I’ll order completely different dishes –> there’s other meals still lingering in my mind.
As I mentioned in Part I, I {embarrassingly} enjoy BBQ that not only has good meat but delicious sides too. Lambert’s checked all the food boxes. Their menu carried a ton of variety.
I’m definitely adding Lambert’s to the list of places to bring visitors out to dinner, which is a tough list considering all the great dining options in Austin!
The service was great, the happy hour was like giving away free food, & the general atmosphere couldn’t have been better.
**Bonus**
They have live music at night… You know I’m all about time efficiency when traveling and what better place to get your Texas BBQ experience + Austin Live music at once?!
Next up: Rudy’s BBQ
Awww, my go-to BBQ in Texas. I have a crush on Rudy’s. I’m not sure why –> It’s half gas station + half restaurant. I think it’s because Rudy’s is known for their customer service.
You’ll notice right when you walk in how friendly their staff is, you always leave feeling a bit happier. {No wonder I have a crush.}
Rudy’s is your typical Texas BBQ. Go to the counter + order your meat by the pound – similar to Terry Blacks.
I’ve tried every meat they have and absolutely love them.
Their sides also get a big check from me. They always taste fresh, clean & flavorful. (You know what I mean by clean… right?)
Menu includes: Brisket, chicken, turkey, pork, ribs, creamed corn, beans, coleslaw + white bread, pickles, onions and cheese.
(YUM)
So0o0, Rudy’s is in a gas station.
I realize now, that sounds a bit odd doesn’t it? Eating yummy food at the gas station? For some reason it’s not thaaat weird & actually adds character to the experience.
There’s several locations – if you’re ever in Texas and see a gas station, check for Rudy’s! LOL!
**Bonus**
They have excellent Breakfast Taco’s. Eggs, Potato, Cheese wrapped in a tortilla –> If you don’t know, try them. Best. Breakfast. Ever.
Who’s been eating BBQ and what do you order?!
Hitting up two more top notch places for next week’s final part of the series. (Saving the best for last 😉 )
Xx
