Summer in Minnesota | 2018

Did You Know?  “The stereotypical behavior of people from Minnesota to be courteous, reserved, and mild-mannered, is popularly known as Minnesota nice. The cultural characteristics of ‘Minnesota nice’ include polite friendliness, an aversion to confrontation, a tendency toward understatement, a disinclination to make a fuss or stand out, emotional restraint, and self-deprecation.” (via)

Minnesota the beautiful! I’ll write about Minnesota every single time I visit because it means too much to me. I love that freaking state!  I haven’t lived there since I was 18 but still feel so connected.  I hear about people who lived in different places & barely have a connection to the place they were born, but that doesn’t apply to me.

It goes without saying, the best time to visit Minnesota is in the summer.  That’s the season Minnesota really shows off.  I’ll argue that Fall is just as special, with the wash of colors across the trees that you don’t get to see many other places.  And the blooming in Spring is also a season that won’t disappoint you.  The winter? Brutal at times, but even then, there’s something pretty to see.  The complete white out.  There’s tons of snow on the ground, in the trees, on the streets.  Everything is quiet.  Twinkling.

This visit, we really wanted to make time for my cabin.  Almost everyone in Minnesota has a cabin or knows someone who does.  In case you didn’t know, Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes.  I can’t say lake real estate is nearly as coveted as it is in Texas.  The lakes are definitely a major perk to living in Minnesota & worth visiting – do as the locals do.

I grew up waterskiing & fishing, every weekend in the summer.  At the time it was an eye roll to pack up all our shit every weekend to go away to the cabin, but now I’m pretty envious of those days.  What a rare escape.  I’d pay a lot of money for that now, in Texas.

We did have one day in the city & went to the Walker Art Center for the first time. I totally recommend this!  Especially because the weather was perfect – the sculpture garden had a huge blue cock & the infamous cherry spoon you see in all the Minneapolis pictures.  We played mini golf on the sky deck.  The course was creatively designed w different notes & objectives.  Very artistic.

For Minnesota shopping, you have to go to The General Store in Minnetonka.  It’s actually worth the drive, even if you’re staying in Minneapolis.  You already know you need to stalk up on {Minnesota native} Wild Rice. Yes you do!  Not to mention other gifts & goodies.  The store is huge & worth it.

For your information, Minnesota is totally worth a weekend getaway.  Stay in Minneapolis.  Eat, shop, go outside!  Visit a lake!  There’s tons of cabin rental options if you want to take a day or 2 doing what Minnesotans do.  We flew Delta for the 1st time you guys & my gosh was it much better than our other domestic airline travels. How did I never know?  I have major flight anxiety & Delta made me incredibly comfortable.  And lucky for you people living in Austin or Minnesota – lots of direct flights happening at very affordable costs!  Go get them!  Book your weekend getaway, to either city, both are worthy of your presence.

Where are you guys from, and how much do you love it?  I need to know the homes of all the people! I wrote on my Instagram picture recently that I was told traveling every 3 months is the key to a happy marriage. I translated that to the key of a happy life.  Meaning… I need to be booking my next weekend getaway ASAP.  Where to go?? Hmmm

PS.  Thank you for all the love on my anxiety post!! It’s been 2 years since my first panic attack but I can remember it like yesterday, I’m so happy to finally have it written down – it’s very therapeutic for me. So thank you for reading <3

PSS.  I finally got my ears pierced! EEEEEEK! I know this isn’t major for most people, boy was it major for me!

Have a great week!! & here’s to a happy August!

Be thoughtful

Xx
