REVIEW: 10 Top Foundation Brands
Did You Know? “About one in four (28 percent) of dads reported they feel “dad guilt” about not making enough money to provide for their family the way they’d like to.” (via)
Today is for beauty & makeup; a foundation review from me to you! I know I’m always telling you guys how much I don’t like wearing full foundation, & that’s true, but I wear it anyway. I made an online purchase from Sephora months ago & they were doing a promotion. With the promotion, you received almost 20 different top brand foundations w your purchase. When I received the package I realized Sephora wasn’t messing around – so much fucking product. If you’ve ever bought brand name foundation, you’ll understand this was $$$$.
Lucky me, each brand came with a range of colors & I got away with using about 3 different shades of each brand, depending how tan I was. A lot of testing happening.
For the past 5 or so months I’ve been experimenting with a different foundation, daily. My goal was always to wear the foundation in the morning & throughout the day so I was able to see it’s lasting powers.
Here’s what I found out. Most foundations are the same. Boring? I know.
Because I obsess over Beauty YouTubers, I was expecting some major moments w each of these foundations, but nope. Not for the average girl like me. Which leads me to saying, I’M NOT A BEAUTY GURU. I like makeup, fashion, sparkle – but I’m not a professional. So this review is for the everyday girl at home that’s also not a major beauty guru (but may dream about being one someday). My descriptive language will quickly give away I’m no pro, so take this as different, unique feedback on some top foundation brands.
REVIEW: 10 POPULAR FOUNDATION BRANDS
NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation: “16-hour, fade resistant foundation that improves skin by the hour.” NARS sampler came with 8 different colors that all looked the same shade, & like they would all match me. But they didn’t. The foundation lasted all day & had a pretty dewy finish – but just couldn’t get any of them to match my skin. Does it turn a color once it’s on your skin? It felt like it did.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation: I would say this foundation does what it says: “Get weightless, buildable coverage with a luminous, demi-matte finish.” My issue was that it didn’t have enough coverage for me, but I’m guessing I was supposed to build the foundation to the coverage I prefer. Meh. Overall, this foundation stresses giving a natural look, & I would have to agree from the result.
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation: “ULTRA HD foundation’s exclusive 4K complex provides impeccable coverage combined with a lightweight texture to guarantee invisible, natural and comfortable makeup.” No major result here, it was a good foundation. I think it’s meant to look good for film & photography, but I didn’t notice anything extra.
BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme: “Coverage without the cake”. I’ll admit, this sample size was a lot smaller compared to others, and I’ve actually been wanting to try this foundation. I might consider buying it. The small sample that I used I really liked & saw potential in.
Fenty Beauty Soft Matte Longwear Foundation: I was pumped for this foundation! Fucking Rihanna people! Yes honnnney pot. “Instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine free: the game changing soft matte finish for all.” I love the packaging of the brand, & the message: For all. The brand prides itself on it diverse shade options available. Overall, I liked the foundation. It lasted all day, matched my skin, & was pretty comfortable to wear. Not as much coverage as I wanted, but still decent.
Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful Look 24Hr Foundation: “Self-setting finish. Invisible SPF Innovation. (You)thful, only better.” This foundation was nice. No major differences than any other foundation but it did the job. A little dewy, but good coverage & lasted all day.
bareMinerals Original Foundation: I forgot about a powder foundation like this one. bareMinerals powder was the first foundation I ever used. It’s a lightweight powder & was surprisingly comfortable to wear. “Made with only 5 ingredients, it’s makeup so pure you can sleep in”. My skin is really dry & I typically avoid powders, but I was happy to see this one doesn’t dry me out. Not major coverage, so a good option if that’s the preference. I’m considering purchasing this for lighter coverage days!
Dior Forever Undercover 24HR Full Coverage: I actually purchased this Dior Foundation because I’ve been seeing it everywhere. “All hail this freakingg Dior Foundation, it makes your skin look like a precious angel“! But, I must be missing something. Is it a good foundation? Yes. Is it OMG spectacular? ….no. That’s my thoughts, it’s just as good as most of the others on this list. I definitely like it, but it’s not something I can’t live without.
MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation: My OG. I’ve been using this bad boi for years & years & years… & years. I still always go back to it. This is the foundation I grab for my daily makeup when I don’t want to think. MAC’s foundation is a good price point, nice range of colors, & I always know what it’s going to do on my skin. It just works.
AND NOW – *the winning ticket, woot woot!*
Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation: Holy fuck. I found it you guys. I didn’t believe there was a foundation that was truly spectacular – but I was wrong! This. is. it. “Laura’s longest wearing foundation seamlessly fuses to skin with a weightless layer that looks, fits and feels like second skin.” Full coverage, comfortable, moisturizing but not dewy, matte but not drying, smoothing, lasting – it’s everything you want from a foundation. I’ve tried a few shades, worn it in the summer sun, in the winter cold, all day & it passed all the tests. Never creased in my wrinkles, looked the same at night as it did when I put it on in the morning. Plus, a very important factor, a pea size amount goes a LONG way. When my sample was done I had to run & buy it. How are people not talking about this foundation? I’m here to report: All other foundations are the same, this one is different. (my color: 2N1 Cashew)
So, that’s it! I hope you enjoyed this little non-makeup artist peek into foundation’s as much as I enjoyed experimenting with them. I hear about different brands & makeup having such differentiating results, but knew it couldn’t all be true.
My conclusion: all foundations are the same, except for Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion. 🙂
More makeup reviews? Lemme know!
Also! Remember, it’s Father’s Day this weekend! Not that anyone would forget, but thought a reminder would be fun. Should I get something for Wafiq since he’s been a good father to our doggie? Or just get something for me + her, and say it’s for him? Hmmm.
Be thoughtful today!
Xx
