Look Like A Hairstylist PRO
Did You Know? “For Masai (Tanzania & Kenya) women, a hairstyle is all about absence of hair. The hair is cropped close to the scalp, and earrings, braids, and headbands are used as decoration in its place. The overall finished look is beautiful in its simplicity, and the brightly coloured accessories create a vibrant, joyful appearance.” (via)
It’s time to highlight the 99c product you should all have in your bathroom drawers – the clear, plastic hair tie! I have LONG, THICK blonde hair & a lot of it. The reason I don’t have short hair? My hair grows rapidly & it’s too high maintenance to constantly cut. I also have a huge colic right on top of my forehead, I’d have to make EFFORT w my morning hairstyles if my hair was short. & who enjoys making effort?
When I was growing up, I would braid every single girl’s hair in the neighborhood. I was the reason we had the cutest neighborhood in Minnesota, each little girl looked STYLED. I tried & perfected every single idea that came to mind & used younger girls hair as a tool to my experiment. And they let me. So did their mothers, I think.
It’s still one of my favorite things to do with my own hair – try anything!
I used to avoid these plastic hair ties because all of my (neighborhood) customers (& their mother’s) would complain that the elastics hurt when they had to be removed. Understood.
As an adult, I should’ve known things would be different. These hair ties MAKE a hairstyle. Here’s Why:
5 Reasons You Need Tiny Elastic Hair Ties
- THEY WON’T MOVE: Specifically when braiding, you usually have a tiny piece of hair to tie at the end. A huge ponytail easily slides off, but a tiny plastic one won’t! It’s there to stay! And you DON’T have to loop it around 10x, that’s only going to damage your hair. 2 or 3 loops should do the trick!
- AFFORDABLE: You can lose these little babies every single time you wear them & it won’t matter because they’re so cheap!! To avoid pulling them out & damaging your hair, cut them! Bye bye hair tie.
- BULK: Going with the above, you don’t have to worry about loosing these elastic ties because they almost always come in packs of 1,000+.
- STYLE: My favorite (& arguably most important) reason for these ponytails is how professional they make your hairstyle look. The clear color specifically blends in with your hair so all the attention is on your: STYLE! Which is the goal, no?
- COLOR SELECTION: Clear, color or black – I love them all! Although CLEAR IS IDEAL in making your hairstyle stand out, it’s fun to mix it up with a subtle touch of color. And the plastics are small enough that they won’t be too BOLD. I’m experimenting w this & u should too! I’ve been loving black elastics, a chic touch on an edgy look.
If you pay close attention to all your favorite hairstyles when browsing through Instagram & Pinterest, you’ll notice these little plastics are what everyone is using! (Unless it’s a scrunchy, which is trendy at the moment.) You can find them at Walmart or Target, but also Amazon. The clear elastics (here), the color elastics (here) and the black elastics (here).
My favorite way to use them is obviously with a good braid. A braid is common in my hair because it’s convenient & perfect when you need to skip a hair wash – the extra oil in your hair only helps tame flyaways + maintain the braid. Gross?
You’re welcome for this beauty game changer! Time to share yours with me! ey? ey?
Speaking of braiding, it’s the perfect time isn’t it? Hot summers, sweating hair, off your face, refreshing braids? Try them!
Ok, byyeeee
Be THOUGHTFUL!
