Happy 2019! We made it.

YAY! It’s officially 2019.  It’s here, we made it!  And another year bites the dust.  Is anyone ready to get back to their regularly scheduled program with work & food?  All the sugar & extra meals can be annoying.  I made a Pecan Pie & literally cut it in half for Wafiq & I to split.  Excuse me while I vomit.

I’ve never been someone that’s very into goal setting at the New Year.  Or resolutions.  I set goals throughout the year & constantly adjust them.  Creating new ones just because it’s the 1st of the year feels forced & I’m honestly a little lazy for that come January 1.

I do take the New Year as a chance to reflect on what I did in 2018 & the things I want to do in 2019.  On a very broad scale.  All in my imagination & without a timeline.  Most things I plan, change.  I do my best not to get stuck & adjust my sails when I need to.  2018 most definitely represented that unplanned change.  Work, health, living – all taking unexpected turns that I wouldn’t have known to put on a 5 yr SMART goal list.

I’m reading this book… The author opened her dream store, with all the money she had, begging a bank to let her borrow what she didn’t have.  Even with the successful store running, a year or two later she decided to close the doors – not part of the plan.  She recently had 2 kids & knew she needed to be home with them.  She was sobbing outside her store on the closing day.  She couldn’t believe she was giving it up, her dream.  Long story short, closing that door opened another one & it all happened the way it was supposed to – much bigger & brighter than she imagined.  Even though it didn’t fit in her original 1 yr, 5 yr or 10 yr plan, it was even better.

I think that’s one of the hardest things to do, change your plans.  Get out of what you thought was supposed to be & risk something new.  But the opportunities around the corner could be more than you dreamed of.  Don’t be afraid to have a few long terms goals, but I encourage you to be open to change.  (I’m talking to myself too.)

Not exactly on the same line of thought but in line with the New Year… I really want to focus on love this year.  I’ve been thinking SO much about love.  And how incredibly vital that emotion is.  Not only in a relationship, but between two things.  I take for granted how much love I receive.  There are so many people that don’t.  I want to bring love to the top of mind & figure out ways to explore it.  I know it’s such a needed, delicate emotion that I think deserves more attention.  That’s where I’m starting 2019.  With LOVE.  Let’s see where I can go with that.  Anyone in agreement?

If you have a hangover, a few movies I can recommend: Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, or Instant family.  All YES movies that’ll make you feel good heading into 2019.  I think if I watched Bird Box while I was hungover I might vomit.

Have a great start to the year everyone!  I hope this year is filled with blessings & abundant amounts of love – both given & received.

Love you, be thoughtful always

Xx
