Thoughtful Act Challenge: Social Media
Did You Know? Soccer, or american football, is a big deal across the world – The 5 biggest sports teams in the world by revenue: 1. Barcelona: ($1.05 bil) 2. Real Madrid: ($892 mil) 3.Dallas Cowboys: ($864 mil) 4. Manchester United: ($794 mil) 5. Manchester City: ($674 mil) (via)
To me, being thoughtful means slowing down & thinking about whatever situation you’re in. I don’t typically say be positive or be kind because I don’t necessarily think that’s always the best advice. I actually wish that wasn’t the advice I heard when I was younger. I’ve learned there are specific scenarios where we shouldn’t be kind, that’s my opinion. Especially as women, there are times I wish someone told me to be bossy, stand up for myself, don’t be pushed over or passive. Of course those instances are rare but they do happen – therefore I encourage being thoughtful, which coincidentally often means being kind.
Today I’m following up on SOCIAL MEDIA.
Today’s thoughtful challenge is about being thoughtful of YOURSELF. Some of you might need that push to unfollow people who give you unwanted feelings via social media. And this is that push. Today, as you’re scrolling through your Instagram, Facebook, or your Snapchat feed I want you to consciously unfollow anyone that gives you unwanted feelings. And remember, it doesn’t matter why you have those unwanted feelings or what account it is. More (here).
To make myself feel better, I always say, if I’m missing the account in a week, I’ll go back & start following them again. To my surprise, that has never been the case.
Although I always suggest being thoughtful – I hope you’re remembering the very 1st person to be thoughtful to is YOURSELF. You know that right? I don’t mean be a rude, arrogant, asshole everywhere you go because your God’s Greatest Gift to Earth – but I do mean talk to yourself nicely. Be honest to yourself. Listen to what is best for – YOU.
Cleaning up your social media feed of all the unwanted feelings, is being kind to yourself. Today, your thoughtful challenge is just that.
I’m really having this moment w social media where I’m trying to actively enjoy it & benefit from the perks it provides. I’ve seen a few people recently comment on the pressure of posting every vacation, party, and special event on social media & I honestly left a little confused.
Social media might be too saturated if that’s how we’re feeling. I’m not the person documenting an entire concert via social media, I might take a picture & move on from it. I’m narrowing in on making social media a fun tool, to showcase creativity & connect. But that’s it. Otherwise we’re going to end up in a world of fucking PRESSURE. And that’s not going to sustain itself very easily.
Step one, remove unwanted.
Easy peasy. How does today’s thoughtful challenge sound? Are you guys already good at avoiding unwanted feelings & social media pressures?
…and how’s that driving challenge going?? Hmmm…
Have a great weekend everyone & be thoughtful
Xx
I really like this post! I read your other post about social media feeds a while back, I really need to go and clean up my accounts, I’ve been avoiding social media because my accounts are full of content I don’t want to see! I think I haven’t been on Facebook since the elections! Time to get in there and get the junk out!
Totally clean them up & find accounts/friends you like following – it’s fun! Thanks for reading 🙂
