How To Find Live Comedy In Your City

Did You Know?  This is how people laugh around the world:  China: 哈哈 呵呵     India: haha, lol, hehe, ek number     US: haha, hehe, lol, lmao     Brazil: haha, kkk, rsrs, huehue     Indonesia: wkwk, xixi      Japan: 笑, (笑), www     Russia: xaxa, xoxo, гггггг, ололо      Nigeria: LWKM, LWKMD      Mexico: jaja     Bangladesh: হা হা, মজাই মজা

I’ve been waiting to share my thoughts on Live Comedy for a long time but didn’t know what angle to attack it! Because attacking it is exactly what I wanted to do.  I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t enjoy laughing.  Is there anything better than a deep, can’t breathe, crying laugh?  I don’t think a tropical Hawaiian vacation topped with perfect weather & chilled rose is better than a fantastic, hard, gut paining laugh.

If you can think of something better, challenge me.

It all started with Podcasts.  And podcasts all started because of anxiety.  When I had a full time, cubical, office job my anxiety was a daily struggle.  I had a fan hooked up to blow on my friggen face the entire day to keep me from having a full blown panic attack.  I needed a distraction from my dead silent, dead, death, dying office life & podcasts came to the rescue.  I listened to all of them, but comedy took the cake.

It then, only took a few years of my brother telling me about live comedy shows before I finally jumped on board.

Now, I’m addicted.

There’s no better way to spend a date night or weekend free.

Aren’t we all looking for new ways to spend our weekend nights?  You can only go to so many restaurants, eat so much food, drink so much wine before you’re looking for something else to do.  Comedy is an easy, affordable, stress-free way to try something new!

How To Find Live Comedy In Your City

  • Google Live Comedy:  this is where you need to start. The google search will populate live comedy clubs in your area.  There’s probably more than one option, go through and explore them all
  • Don’t Worry About the Comedian:  you don’t have to know a good comedian to go to a show, you can go in blind, with no clue as to who you’re going to see – sometimes those are the best shows!
  • Remember Shows are Affordable: if you go see Joe Rogan or Kevin Hart you’re going to be part of the popular crowd, therefore spending some monies.  At your local comedy clubs, it’s likely opposite.  You won’t be that popular or spending all your monies.  Comedy shows are usually $15-$20!  Unless you’re seeing the heavy hitters, but again, absolutely don’t have to know the comedian to enjoy the show.
  • Find My Favorites: if you can’t handle going to live comedy or seeing a live show without knowing any comedians, follow some of my favorites.  I listen to Heather Mcdonald’s podcast “Juicy Scoop” (here) & my go-to for comedians is Joe Rogan’s podcast The Joe Rogan Experience (here).  Joe Rogan specifically has a ton of comedians for guests on his show, so that’s a great place to find them.  Listen to a Joe Rogan Experience episode with Joey Diaz, Ari Shaffir, or Brendan Schaub as a guest. That’s a great start.

If you haven’t been into comedy before, I hope this will encourage you to look into it.  Like I mentioned, there’s nothing better than a solid laugh or comedic relief.  Comedy can help enhance your already happy life or heal a broken one…

If you’re already into comedy or have seen shows before – share your favorites PLEASE.  I hustle people for this information the second I find out they’re into comedy, it’s a topic I can really get into.

Ok, that’s it for now! I’m off to kiss my sweet apartment goodbye! Out with the old, in with the new. Have a great weekend & enjoy the welcoming of FALL!

Be thoughtful,

Xx
