My Perfect Day in Austin Texas
There are a ton of lists out there with things to do in Austin, Texas. Austin is a hot place to visit, it provides perfect spring break weather, there’s always a festival happening, and tons of live music. I don’t consider myself an “Austin” blogger. I don’t have enough friends for that. So I try to stay away from recommending things to do locally as I can only imagine there’s better advice out there. But, as I’ve read through lists of things to do, as exciting as everything sounds – it’s never my ideal day in Austin. Sure, some of the popular restaurants, coffee shops & bat watching sound like a good time – but my ideal day would be a lot less popular.
Today, I’m sharing a perfect day in Austin, with me. If you came into town & asked “what would you do”, this is my list. If I moved out of Austin & came back to visit with some friends, this would be my ideal day. And here’s how I confirmed this is the perfect list for me. I wrote down what I think would be the best day in Austin & then asked Wafiq what he thought I would say – he literally said the same exact thing that was written on my list. You can trust me when I say, I know what I like.
My Perfect Day in Austin Texas
Jo’s Coffee on South Congress (here): Start your morning on South Congress at Jo’s Coffee, that way you knock out the iconic location before it gets too crowded in the later afternoon. They have these huge, delicious cookies that are hard to pass up, dessert for breakfast would be my order – just looking at them makes your mouth water. You can also grab tacos, baked goods, and a good ol cup of coffee before your long day. Of course, you should take the opportunity to quickly snap a picture next to the “I love you so much” sign, why not.
Shopping at the Domain (here): Then, immediately head North to the Domain to get your shopping in. Although the Domain is a little further away from downtown, it’s worth the drive. The Domain is a shopping development that has done a great job at leasing space to local stores, making the shopping experience especially unique. You’ll definitely be able to find pieces that you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else. If you’re with a group, there’s enough going on in the area to keep everyone occupied, so no one would feel left out. Knowing you can’t stop in every single shop or you’d be there all day, you’ll have to pick favorites. Here are a few boutiques I wouldn’t miss – Lily Rain, Luxe Apothetique, Cotone Clothing, & Nordstrom because this location is freaking huge.
Flower Child for Lunch (here): The name alone should give away my recommended lunch option, Flower Child in the Domain. Whenever you’re done shopping, grab something to eat before heading back towards downtown Austin. Flower Child is super pretty & inviting. Simply sitting in the restaurant makes you feel at ease, like you’re on a picnic in a garden. The food options are healthy too! I like how it’s a quick stop, you order at the counter, they bring your food, eat & you’re on your way!
Zilker Park (here): Depending on your fashion choices, you may want to stop home and change into something comfortable, then go to the park! I know this isn’t everyone’s favorite option but I always take visitors to the park when they visit. Bring a blanket to sit on & a good book. Or a ball to pass around. Or share a snack & enjoy the big trees & beautiful views of the city skyline. If sitting isn’t your thing, take a walk around the Town Lake Hike & Bike Trail. There are several distances you can take, but this is another must for me. So many pretty views of the city, water, and sexy athletic people on the trail.
Dinner at Lamberts (here): If you’re in Texas you have to have BBQ. It’s practically a requirement. However, there’s not always time for a stop at one of the popular BBQ places with super long lines, you’ll need another option. I love Lamberts because it’s BBQ, but downtown in the historic district, and a step above the traditional picnic tables so you can have a chance to wear your date night outfit. It’s the cutest little place, great evening ambiance, and still gives you the opportunity for Texas BBQ. The best part is the live music upstairs on weekend nights. When you finish your dinner, head up and listen to a cool Blues band. Two birds with one stone – Live music & Texas BBQ.
Enjoy a Night Cap at the W Hotel (here): And finally, since you’re dressed for dinner, head to the W Hotel around the corner from Lamberts for a nightcap. There’s nothing too unique about this location other than the good music, plenty of space, and convenient location. Then, cheers to your perfect day in Austin!
And that’s it! If you want to fulfill my perfect day in Austin, feel free! Enjoy it, because I know I would. Austin is full of things to do & events going on but I know if I came back to visit – everything listed above is all I would need. I came up with this idea when I thought about all the things Austin has to offer, but how doing what you enjoy totally depends on YOU. If anyone has similar interests, this is the list for you.
Tell me, where are you from? And what’s your favorite local thing to do?
Have a great weekend & be thoughtful
Xx
