3 Tips To Conquer What You’re Grateful For
Did You Know? Professional Finger Pulling Competitions are happening in the Alps “Finger-pulling is no laughing matter in the Alps. Finger wrestling was once used to settle disputes but is now a competition that is taken quite seriously by the contenders. The winner is the person who manages to pull the other contestant across the table, using only his or her finger! Contenders pick their digit carefully and subject it to rigorous training regimes involving crushing tennis balls and doing one finger pull-ups!” (via)
HAPPY THANKSGIVING! There is nothing better than bringing everyone together over food in preparation of the winter months, we should make this a monthly thing. Call it something else perhaps? I’m into family/friends gathering over a nice meal & hitting pause for a moment to hopefully be together.
You all know that dreaded “what are you grateful for” question that circles the table at Thanksgiving. You’re looking at a person that’s very one board w that vibe. So on board that Wafiq & I say 5 things we’re grateful for almost every single day around our dinner table when we’re eating. Once you get in this habit, watch your life change.
TODAY, I’m starting the trend & sharing 5 things I’m grateful for right here!
5 Things I’m Grateful For This Thanksgiving:
1:: Delta Airlines – Ok not specifically Delta, but I’m grateful there are now affordable flights between Austin, Texas & Minnesota because this means I can see my family more often! Ever since moving to Austin I haven’t had this luxury. Traveling home has always been expensive & included at least 1 stop which made traveling painful. NOW, there’s affordable, comfortable, and DIRECT flights home & I couldn’t be more grateful.
2:: Health – Don’t let this one fool you as an easy scapegoat, I mean this one 100%. This year I had my anaphylactic shock experience, TWICE. I don’t know what’s going to happen with this, but I’m grateful that I’ve had healthy days since then. Literally every day I’m healthy & feeling good, I’m grateful. Damn, is health fragile. And with the looming “Cedar Season” of Texas allergies upon me, I’m even more grateful for each day allergy free.
3:: Wafiq – Not necessarily that I have a guy, because that isn’t enough. But more that Wafiq, in particular, is as willing as I am to communicate & work on our relationship, everyday. We’re not perfect, but I appreciate how hard we’re both willing to work at it. And make sure we’re both fulfilled, & ultimately happy. I wouldn’t be nearly as comfortable in a relationship if I couldn’t be next to someone that pushes me, works diligently on our relationship, and has the same big dreams BUT makes sure I’m as fulfilled as he is.
4:: My Mental Health Progress: Yessss hunnny baby yes! I am so PROUD that I was brave enough to go to the therapist a few years ago, and continued going back consistently, even when I didn’t think it was doing anything for me. This INVESTMENT in myself slowly, but surely made major moves in my mental health & looking back, dayyyyum I’m grateful I’m where I am today. (Keyword: progress)
5:: Having A Hobby I Love: When I step outside my little introvert bubble & talk to other people I realize how special this blogging hobby has been for me. I love it! I’m grateful that I’ve found something I love doing & a place to write, create, experiment with whatever I want, however I want. If that’s not freedom, I don’t know what is. I know there’s people that haven’t found what makes their clock tick, so I’m grateful I’ve found this.
Want tips to make your “Grateful” list better than everyone else’s?? I got you.
3 Tips To Conquer What You’re Grateful For:
1:: Be Honest; don’t bull shit this grateful request. That’s likely why you’ll end up dreading it. What are you really grateful for? What honestly comes to mind, how do you feel?
2:: Don’t Set Standards; Searching your mind for a “deep” grateful thought can be stressful. Maybe all you’re really thinking about is that warm jacket you bought for 75% off with your boyfriend shopping on Saturday… Say that! Don’t limit yourself to only the deepest, most sensitive grateful thing – even a good freaking day or perfect night of rest can be your most grateful thing at the moment, that absolutely qualifies!!
3:: Be specific; if you’re grateful for your health, dig in there. You’re health today specifically? Or because you had a “scare”? If you’re grateful for your new jacket, dig in that a little more too. Because you got it as a gift? Because it was so affordable & you’ve been trying to save money? Really get specific.
I especially love to run through this practice of 5 things your grateful for on a bad day, when you think everything is SHIT. Because, when you stop & focus on the good, it puts your bad day in perspective. You’ll quickly realize your day, or month or even year, isn’t that bad.
Have a warm THANKSGIVING everyone! Wafiq & I are cooking a turkey together. We haven’t done this turkey thing since our experience with the butter knife, who remembers? (HERE). Still makes me dry heave. I have to say, I’m very ready to have a chill day with a delicious home-cooked meal, now that’s something to be grateful for.
Love you, k bye!
Be thoughtful,
Xx
