5 Rules For Acceptable Bragging

Did You Know?  In a survey of 2,000 people, more than 75% admitted to lying about themselves on social profiles.  Only 18% said that their Twitter and Facebook profiles accurately represent them.

( v i a )

There’s something about being a badass bragger that I love.

If you do it wrong, than bragging is horrifically obnoxious.

5 Rules-for-Bragging

I love hearing people talk about what they’re passionate about, what makes them happy.  Whether that was a time in their life or an event they’re currently going through.  To see them get excited & feel comfortable enough opening up is exciting.  Conversations like these really get me going.

But there’s also people that don’t know how to brag properly.  They’re more focused on being a show off than sharing good news.  I think if you have to glorify every part of your life & constantly talk about it, there must be some self-confidence issues going on.  (LOL I’m laughing at my physiological conclusions here, but stay with me)

I broke down 5 Rules To A Good Brag because I think at some point bragging is awesome, but you have to do it correctly.

5 Rules To Being A Badass Bragger

  1. Wait for someone to ASK YOU about something.  This rule is a little tricky because sometimes people don’t know what to ask.  But, for the most part, always wait for someone to ask about you & what you’ve been up to. If that’s your children, dog, career, vacation, relationship, boyfriend – wait for them to ask.  “How’s work going?”  “I saw you ran a marathon, was it hard?” “How’s Bernice?”  If they never ask, that’s pretty telling, they don’t give a shit. HA!  Send them to my post on: LISTENING.
  2. Shut Up.  Conversation tip across the board – Shut Up.  Don’t go on forever about anything, ever.  No matter who you are or how important the info you’re sharing is, remember to cut it off. Or at least stop, breathe, and ask for questions?
  3. Think about the WHY.  Why are you sharing?  Are you sharing because you want to feel better about yourself?  That’s not the right reason.  Are you sharing because you’re excited & want others to feel excited too?  Then brag away! But don’t brag simply so you can feel cool, or better, or special.  Brag because you’re overjoyed & want others to feel overjoyed too.
  4. Always express your GENUINE gratitude & appreciation.  This is the most important one to being a good bragger.  You have to always make sure you express how lucky you are to be married to the top RE Agent in the U.S. ( 😉 )  Or how grateful you are to travel through the African Safari for 6 months of the year.  Or how appreciative you are that you have the career of your dreams.  I don’t know what you’re bragging about, but it’s important to ALWAYS be humble while bragging.  Then others know, you know, you’re lucky.
  5. Try to include your audience.  Sometimes you might be bragging about something huge.  You’re getting married, you’re having a kid.. That’s big stuff, and likely your audience isn’t going through that large of an event to equally be able to brag about it… Still try to include them, rather than talk AT them forever.  If they have kids, or got married, try to relate or ask questions.  Help them remember those times.  Bring them in, because talking AT people is really annoying, so do your best to include them somehow.5 Rules-for-Bragging

What do you think about Bragging?!  Funny topic right?  Bragging is weird to admit because it’s so much conversation about yourself!  But it’s fun to be excited with people who are excited, so if you brag correctly – then brag away!

I’m off to brag to Wafiq about how I was paid today and have yet to blow it all online shopping!  I’m sharing with him because I’m excited & I’ll ask him how he’s doing on his savings so we can be proud together!  HA!

Have a great weekend everyone! Go out, brag away, and be thoughtful…

Xx

Top 5 Everyday Makeup Must Haves

I haven’t had any time to blog because: OLYMPICS!  I have a competitive personality & I get very into the Olympic games. (And yes, I do cry at every event – the athletes & families work so hard, waaaah!! Bravo! Bravo!)

In other news, I made the mistake of going out of the house before 4:00pm on Saturday – what a terrible decision.  It’s too hot.. but Ulta was calling my name.  I noticed the Carli Bybel Palette was finally in Ulta, yay! I’ve been wanting (another) palette for a long time.  I use that baby everyday!

Everyday-Makeup-Essentials

For the past year I’ve been using several staple makeup products that I’ve fallen in love with.  I wear these products pretty much every day.  They’re comfortable on my face & I have my routine down.  Perfect, easy, every day makeup.  These are also the products I tend to travel w/because they’re so versatile.

  1. Urban Decay Naked Basics – All my prayers were answered the day I bought this tiny pallet.  I still remember the Sephora in Dubai Marina Mall that I went to on my lunch break to buy it, I debated forever.  At this point, I think this is the most valuable makeup product I own because I use it for everything.

W.O.S. – all over the eye lid in the morning, to cover the red from my itching allergies or any blue, sleepy looking eyelid issues
Foxy – over my under eye concealer to set my makeup.
Naked 2 or Faint – contour my nose, chin or eyelid.
Crave – help with a smokey eye.
Venus – inner eye corner or a highlight.

I can do A LOT of my face w/this one baby palette. AND, I’ve had it for a year, used it almost every day, and still don’t need to buy a new one.   For every day, easy makeup – this is perfect.  I can’t live without it.

  2. L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara – Everyone talks about this mascara because it’s the best.  It truly adds volume, and every time I try to change up my mascara I always end up going back to this one.  Something about it just works.

  3. L’Oreal True Match Foundation (W5) – I wanted a drugstore foundation for everyday because I hate spending too much money on a foundation that I wear for the mornings & don’t see anyone or go anywhere. Ya know?  I wear it to look alive but don’t need to be a 10.  You feel me.  This foundation has been my go to for the past year.  I bounce between a couple colors depending on my spray tan level.

  4. Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzer – I spoke about this in my favorites post.  I love it. I love being bronze. I love the way this bronzer blends and sits on the skin without drying my face out.  Buildable so it won’t overwhelm you & worth the money – it lasts forever.

  5. Carli Bybel Palette – I use the highlighter in this palette every single day.  Besides that, this palette is as good as gold.  It’s only $14 at Ulta right now & my gosh is it worth it!  There’s a variety of colors, including mattes and shimmers.  Although it’s so affordable, the product itself feels expensive.  I really can’t say enough, other than get it before it’s gone! I believe it’s a limited edition 🙁

Alright, alright, alright – what super basic makeup products do you use every day? Tried & true?   I still hop around a little with blush and concealer, but the others I hoard.    Once you have staple makeup products that you feel comfortable using every day – makeup is fast, easy + fun.  You feel comfortable and ready to take on the day! At least I do…

Although… these female swimmers in the Olympics are making me rethink my nail game & possibly piercing my ears. Is it time?

For now, I’m off to clean + run errands + cook + workout and prepare so I have zero distractions from Michael Phelps swim tonight 🙂

Talk soon!

Xx

Overlooked and Oh So Good, Date Night Ideas

Welcome, weekend. Please come any time..

cabin4

P.S. Has anyone found that sneaky little devil SUGAR hiding anywhere? If so, spill the beans!! Save us all!!!

As I plan my Saturday evening, I wanted to give you guys two overlooked date night ideas.

Wafiq and I have had our ups and downs and overs and across’s the past couple years with traveling/money/moving/deciding/thinking/ the list goes on…

What we always try to do is find affordable, fun, date nights. Wherever we are. And nothing over the top.  Because, dinner date every Saturday night = > Blaaaaah.  Not only are dinner dates a little boring if they’re done consistently, but we also notice they’re easier to ditch.

Would you rather stay in and watch a movie?”  “We cook better food ourselves anyway”  “And it’s expensive” “Then we have to get ready” “I will if youuuu want to” “but I already said, only if youuuu want to”

The excuses start flowing like water down a rapid river.

SO. Two underrated, surprise Saturday Date Night ideas:

 Cabin3

B O W L I N G     &    M I N I   G O L F

You know, the activities you begged your parents to do when you were 7 years old?  Those activities are actually fun, even as an adult. TRUST me.

Admitting you’re going to the bowling ally as a 20 something year old for date night does sound a little old lady.. But honestly, worth it! And F*** it anyways.

cabin6

If you can get past the thought of wearing bowling shoes instead of heels to date night, and focus on the experience you’ll be having.. You’ll see the adventure is worth it.  Bring some fancy socks + a killer outfit and you won’t even know what shoes you’re wearing 😉

Same with mini golf. Do you know the photo ops at most mini golf courses?! So romance! Slap on them fake eye lashes and show off all the skills you learned as a 7 year old golfer.

Give it a try! (Let me know any other easy peasy date nights I need to try. We’re up for anything!)

5 Things You’re Grateful For Right Now

Grateful Right Now

PinterestGratefulRightNow

I mentioned this a looooong time ago and I always wanted to wrap back around to it because I know I didn’t give the idea enough attention.. and I definitely wanted to.

5 things you’re grateful for R I G H T N O W !

When I was living in Dubai, doing this saved my life.  Probably not really, but it felt like it at the time.

The idea sounds small, and simple but it’s a game changer in having a positive day, and a positive outlook 🙂

Whenever you’re in a strange mood. Whether that means you’re angry, hormonal, sad, nervous, anxious, exhausted..  Say 5 things you’re grateful for out loud.

(And yes, the out loud part is an important part of these instructions)

GratefulRightNow2

I challenge you to say 5 things that you’re grateful for that have meaning in that moment. Rather than saying: “I’m grateful for my dog. I’m grateful for my house. I’m grateful for my shoes. I’m grateful for my TV”.

Put some meaning behind them: “I’m grateful I was able to wake up early and do my workout so I feel better throughout the day. I’m grateful I spoke to both of my parents at lunch today and they sound so happy. I’m grateful my dog had a stellar vet appointment that didn’t cost as much as I was expecting.  I’m grateful the sky is clear blue and the air feels so cozy. I’m grateful I don’t have to work today.”

You get the drift?

**In case you didn’t get it the first time –> Say them out loud, even if it’s a whisper to yourself, say them out loud!

If you’re with a friend or dog or partner, you can each do 5 things you’re grateful for and you’ll notice the energy will quickly lift. Smiles!  Even Wafiq liked doing this. Eventually he would bring it up.  We’d be in the car on the way home from work and he’d say, “Let’s say the 5 things we’re grateful for right now”.  <—- Awwwww.. Because it makes you feel good! Simple as that!

Give it a try! #gratefulrightnow ! ! !

(* Let me know how it goes)
