The Reason You Are So Unique

Hey you!  Did you know? Our bodies are freakishly DIFFERENT.  There’s no better time to bring up homo sapien’s than the launch of my new website, right?? For any new visitors, and previous ones, this will be an excellent reminder & something to keep in your back pocket when reading any post I write.

Before I get into that – THANK YOU so much for the kind words about my new website.  So professional, right?  I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, the only reason I haven’t?  I didn’t know how.   Find a web designer?  One that does blogs?  That was the biggest challenge believe it or not, so needless to say I’m so much happier now that the site matches my… vibe.  After 6 years I can finally get started!

OK, so homo sapiens (sounds cooler than “human” or “body”, right?).  Let’s get to this.

Most of you know I’ve had bad allergies this year, starting with Anaphylactic Shock.  Because doctors couldn’t figure out what caused my bad reaction, I ended up seeing several doctors.  And reading tons of information.

Prior to my experience w anaphylactic shock, I was always trying new diets & trending foods.  I was vegetarian for 6 months, I tried to be gluten-free for another 6 months, I even did the Master Cleanse, twice! Adding coconut oil to everything, high-fat foods, collagen peptides, kimchi, probiotics, fasting, ect.  Whatever those new popular food trends were, I was on board.  And how could you not be?  With all the benefits & apparently no negative effects, sign me up!

Well, this year I realized the craziest thing.  Our human bodies are INCREDIBLY unique.  Insanely different.  You guys, let me try to tell you.  Even the healthiest foods (ie Spinach, broccoli, rice, eggs, tomato, ect) surprisingly may not work for some people’s bodies.  Or maybe they do, but in limited amounts.  OMG this is so exciting! Ok.  So.  If you strip away everything you know about food, and you strip away everything you’re eating – then start learning about foods as you eat them? You’ll be flabbergasted.  Shit gets wild.  BECAUSE, foods you thought you should be eating 26 times a day might actually be hurting your body rather than helping it.  And foods you’re avoiding might actually be able to help your body rather than hurt it.

I had to erase basically everything I knew about food & start over.  Make a new, customized food pyramid for MY body.  I look back at my old posts when I thought I was being healthy, following some trend, and realize I was doing it wrong.  Although I follow certain diet restrictions now, I have a real reason.  I know what MY specific body looks & acts like when I put the wrong thing into it.  I’ve noticed this level of understanding has helped my current diet feel like it’ll be a long term lifestyle change, making my relationship w food stronger.

So what the fuck am I supposed to do now Katie, I’m not cutting everything out.  Well, lucky for you that’s not my point.  You can still read the books, listen to the information and eat trending foods.  I’m not suggesting any of the information available is wrong, I’m merely saying our bodies are incredibly different so a complete copy/paste formula likely won’t work.  My advice?  Take PIECES from the information that works best for YOU.  Experiment with pieces rather than an entire diet or idea.  Listen to your body.  Trust your body above anything else.  And most importantly, have patience.

This is where we really get wild because…  this rocketing idea that homo sapiens are different, applies to everything!  Skincare? YES!  Fashion? YES! Thoughts? YES!!

Our skin is not going respond the same way our best friend’s skin responds to a product.  The makeup we use might not apply the same way your favorite beauty blogger’s makeup applies.  Even if it’s the exact same product!  Why?  Because we’re unique homo sapiens with a crazy diverse network of little cell things.  (yep, not a doctor.)

What about fashion?  More noticeable but you guessed it, we’re DIFFERENT!  Imagine that??  So will the same dress look as fab on that awesome fashion blogger as it does on me?  Maybe not.  But maybe something similar will!

This is good news, right?!  This takes that ever-mounting pressure to have us all eat the same, dress the same, and act the same – OFF.  Ding ding!  We are NOT the same.  Incredibly diverse actually.

Now, this is tricky territory we’re entering because the world wants us to be the same.  In case you didn’t see it, I’ll help.  Try being a bridesmaid with huge boobies standing in a row of 9 girls with no boobies in a dress that’s low cut?  Not easy.  Did they forget?  We’re homo sapiens? We different.  However, fashion isn’t my point here, FOOD is.

Try not eating tomatoes.  Trying cutting a freaking food like tomatoes out of your diet.  Let the chaos commence!  Why?  Because people want you to eat fucking tomatoes.  “You won’t eat the pizza (tomato sauce)?!”  How dare you, you’re so picky.  I’ve been adjusting my diet & learning about foods for almost a year now so I’m getting really confident saying no to tomatoes.  Like, I’m a unique homo sapien, my cells don’t want it right now.  Thanks.

Do-what-works-for-you

But here’s what I want YOU to take away when you’re on MISSBASSMATER:

Currently, I’m trying to avoid dairy & gluten.  And I might share beauty products that have been working for me or clothes that fit my body comfortably or shoes that sparkle in my eyes or strong opinions that I believe in – but that doesn’t mean it has to work perfectly w your badass homo sapien self.  Maybe it will, but maybe it won’t.  I’m sharing what I’ve learned.  What works for ME.  And I suggest you do this, because this is what I do with other bloggers, advice, or trends: take away the pieces that work for YOU.  Use what you see to inspire you to make your own healthy decisions & to feel confident in your own choices. To create this incredible combination of the BEST things for YOU!

How exciting right?

Whatever journey you’re on, I support you.  Hopefully, you’ll feel confident making your own easy, or difficult, decisions after being here – because that’s what I want.  You know what’s best for YOU, trust that.

Again, thank you for being here & reading along! I appreciate you!!

Have a great Valentines WEEK! I have a major post on LOVE coming up Thursday, get ready for it because I’m getting serious.

In the meantime, be thoughtful

Xx
