BEAUTYCOUNTER: First Impressions

Did You Know?  “The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.” (via)

The day has come to talk, Beautycounter.  A lot of you know the bits & pieces of my allergy struggle the past few months.  Unfortunately, it’s snowballed into more than a pesky lil mosquito.  I decided I’ll open up more about that subject soon! I have to think about exactly how & what I want to explain, as it’s a pretty sensitive subject…

One thing I always thought would be an overwhelming task, was to change out all of my foods + all my products to be safer.  It’s intimidating!  Not to mention expensive & a bit dramatic. I thought I did better than a lot of others, as far as safe food & safe products go, so that was enough. Likeee, I eat organic carrots mmmkay?  I’m good.

But recently I’ve become uber aware of everything that’s going into my body (because allergies, boo) & a side effect of that has been my increased awareness of what I’m putting ON my body.   What I put IN my body & ON my body organically became equally important.

Before I had a chance to overthink or stress over safe products, I found myself naturally being cautious of what was going on my skin & subtly making changes.  With barely a hiccup.   That’s the long story for why I finally wound up shopping at Beautycounter.  For those that aren’t yet aware, Beautycounter’s Mission is “to get safer products into the hands of everyone.”  Here’s some scary information for you to digest:  “Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned close to 1,400 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. The United States has only partially banned 30 to date.” (via)

Super chill, right?

But my point here is not to scare you, because that doesn’t necessarily work.  Like I said, I wanted to try a few products because of my allergies & it’s taken off from there.

I’m sharing the products I’ve been using for a month or more so you can get an honest opinion on whether or not you decide to start rotating a few of them through your beauty routines.

My First Impression: Beautycounter

Nourishing Cream Exfoliator

I’ve always been hesitant of exfoliators.  I used to use the apricot scrub while I was in college, (don’t act like you didn’t too) & I remember all my dorm mates thought it was the best because it would rip off all our bad skin.  Bad idea!  (I had a lot of those.)  I thought a safe place to reintroduce an exfoliator would be via Beautycounter.  They claim safe safe safe, so lets do this.  I’ve been craving a good scrub to work off my spray tans & get a really deep clean.  I’ve been using this product a few days a week for the past few weeks & I have to admit it’s something I can tell my skin has been missing.  It’s a relief that the product is not ripping off my skin, it’s just deep cleaning it.  Another major bonus, a super pea size amount easily does the trick for my entire face + neck.  Double Thumbs Up for Beauty Counter Exfoliator.

Dew Skin Moisturizing Coverage

The highly raved moisturizing tint!  This product is awesome because it has SPF in it, it’s lightweight, & fits the bill for a day where you don’t want to feel like you have makeup on.  The major reason I love it?  It doesn’t fall into your eyes.  I’ve tried plenty of other similar products that have high reviews but they tend to slide around my face throughout the day, & eventually slide into my eyes which becomes irritating & obnoxious. This product soaks right into the skin & stays there.  I’m reordering a darker tint, to accommodate my awesome bronze spray tanned skin.  I ordered “No.1” but need a “No.2” or “No.3” for bronzed days.  If you’re looking for any coverage, this is not the product.  The tint is very light! But I love it & think it totally serves it’s purpose.

Sheer Lipstick

I wanted to save the best for last, but here it is.  Aesthetically it made sense to enter the list here, so lipstick.  YOU GUYS, pay attention to this one.  Beautycounter’s lipstick is everything you need from a daily lipstick! It’s hard to want to try something different, which is rare for me.  This lipstick is light, incredibly moisturizing, perfectly tinted, and it smells good.  This is not your bold, never-move, lipstick.  It’s your daily, ultra moisturizing, love-to-wear it lipstick.  I’ve been wearing this product for months, in almost all of my pictures, every single day.  I never used to understand spending money on a lip product, but I’m 100% into this.  The color I’ve been using is “poppy“.  5 Thumbs Up for Lipstick.

Lip Gloss

The lip gloss gets the same raves – moisturizing, perfect tint, everything you’d want from a daily lipgloss.  The only thing I’d recommend, keep your other lip glosses on hand too.  The price point is high for a lip gloss.  Nonetheless, I still love it.  The gloss & color lasts a pretty long time which you’ll be able to see right away because the product itself is a little thicker, you can tell the goal is to stick to the lips for the long haul.  The color I’ve been wearing: Poppy.  As long as you have the means, two thumbs up for Beautycounter lipgloss.  (but I would get the Sheer Lipstick first 🙂 )

Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Mist

YES! I think we started hearing about the importance of a safe sunscreen a few years ago & since then it’s always been my inner dialogue as I spray myself with cheap sunscreen before heading out into the sun.  I haven’t tested this sunscreen to it’s max.  Meaning, I haven’t sat outside all day, spent the day swimming or sweating, while wearing it.  That’s not really my lifestyle, the sun that is.  But I do wear it when I go to the park & workouts.  The product comes out, WHITE.  That’s a little curveball compared to the other spray products I’ve used.  I’m not used to a sunscreen spray being so white, but that doesn’t bother me at all.  This spray also requires a lot more of actually blending the product onto the skin after you spray it, but again that doesn’t bother me.  I’d rather have the safe sunscreen over the most convenient one.  This product is also a more affordable Beautycounter product so if you want to start somewhere, start here!

Those are all the products I can confidently say I’ve tried so far! But, I already have my next order ready to go.  I’m trying another Dew Skin Moisturizer (darker shade), another color Sheer Lipstick (maybe more than one, SO GOOD), and the Overnight Peel (my cousin raves about that one).  Have you guys tried any Beautycounter products, tell me what you’ve liked!

I feel like we have to share what we like with Beautycounter, as many of the products cost a little more than other brands, it’s nice to know ahead what’s the best to get so you know where to start.  Right?

I should also mention, Beautycounter’s packaging is next level!  It’s luxurious & detailed which only adds to the glamour of the safe products.

One more thing before I forget (jeez) – Beautycounter products are great for gifting!  Because they’re safe, top quality, pretty, and something a lot of people won’t spend money on for themselves – give them this gift! I’m literally always thinking of good gift ideas because when the time comes up, I never know what to give!  Anyone else?! No?

Ok that’s it for Beautycounter.  Everyone have a safe 4th of July! OMG I hope some of you reading this are on vacation or about to be, how wonderful is time off?!

Be safe, and be thoughtful

Xx
