3 Things You Need To Stop Using – TODAY

Did You Know? “Already, the ocean is filled with about 165 million tons of plastic. That’s 25 times heavier than the Great Pyramid of Giza.  By 2050, plastic in the oceans (is predicted to) outweigh fish.”

( v i a )

One thing that drives me nuts is throw-away plastic.  I really can’t stand it.

And because it’s Earth Day this weekend I thought it would be a good time to address throw-away plastic.

3 Things You Need To Stop Using, TODAY

1. Plastic Serving Items:

Plastic plates, utensils, cups, bowls, straws – all need to go!  I can’t remember the last time I purchased any of those items.   I remember in the 19th century when we thought using plastic items was incredibly smart because it made clean-up easier, but that was the 19th century when we didn’t know how much that was effecting our mother earth.

Honestly, it takes two seconds to get everything through the dishwasher & once you get in the habit of it, you don’t even notice the clean-up.

Large garbage bags filled with plastic serving utensils is disturbing.  Not to mention half of it blows away or breaks in the process & isn’t even used.  Instead – use real, affordable, inexpensive items that you’ll easily be able to wash, store, & reuse.

2. Zip Lock Bags:

Zip Lock Bags are dumb.  Wafiq had a hard time letting go of these but after much trickery I’ve managed to keep them out of the house & he’s barely noticed.

I use these red containers for EVERYTHING.  I chop onions, broccoli, jalapenos, and other veggies – then leave them in the containers to easily pull out & use for a quick lunch or recipe.

This size is particularly awesome for the Oatmeal I eat every morning.

And the containers make your refrigerator look so organized!!  Much better than bags hanging out all over the place.  This size is the perfect portion for your meals, anything bigger allows room for too much food!

I also use containers to freeze meat. Rather than the whole package, I’ll separate the pieces & freeze them in portions of my choosing.

Time to ditch zip locks people!  These containers are awesome, $23 for a set of 40, and you can buy them at Target OR Amazon Prime!

3. Paper Towels & Plastic Water Bottles:

I put paper towels & water bottles together because I understand avoiding these two items completely is not realistic for some people.

As far as paper towels are concerned – you can no longer be the person who grabs a paper towel EVERY SINGLE TIME you wash & dry your hands.  My jaw drops writing that.  You know how many paper towels you use & go through?!  Buy a few kitchen towels to dry your hands & switch them out as often as you need to in order to keep them clean.  Period.  Paper towels should be more of a back-up option.

As far as water bottles – I never drink out of the plastic ones unless I’m desperate for water & forgot to bring my own, which is rare.  I always have a huge water bottle with ice that I carry around & refill.   Every time I leave the house & of course while in the house.  (I shamefully became a Yeti addict recently, nothing like a freezing cold drink of water.  I use a metal straw with mine. )  If anyone buys those God forsaken small, 8oz, water bottles still – It’s time to stop immediately. What a waste!

What do you think?  Anyone else have any obsessive ways to ditch trash/recycle build up?

I’m not a huge climate change advocate but it does break my heart to see what mother earth is going through, especially with some of our wasteful decisions – so I try my best to do little things that will hopefully make a difference. Creating less trash sounds like a good start.

Let me know your thoughts!

Have a great weekend & be thoughtful

Say Goodbye to Ready-to-Bake Cookies & Hello to Your Homemade Version

Did You Know? The largest cookie weighed 40,000lbs with 101ft diameter. Immaculate Baking Company had to surround the whole creation with heaters (more than 20 altogether) to get the sheet to baking temperature.  As for the cookie dough, it was made from 40,000 pounds of ingredients. ( v i a )

I was planning an entire post on my favorite online clothing shops but had a craving for cookies that I couldn’t resist, so the clothes will have to wait.  My mind is too distracted to talk about sequins & sales (<< very rare).

 Ready-To-Bake-Easy-Cookies

My ultimate guilty pleasure: Cookies.  I RARELY find myself saying no to a cookie.  Other desserts don’t typically tempt me, but a cookie & I can’t walk away.   The gold mine was when I figured out how easy/delicious ready to bake cookies were.  Gooey & worth every extra pound to the hips.

 https://api.shopstyle.com/action/apiVisitRetailer?id=499873047&pid=uid5076-33374726-43

Because I know majority of the ingredients in ready-to-bake cookies are shit, I stopped buying them. But the cookie craving could not be curbed.  I tried buying the “organic”,  ready-to-bake cookies or gluten-free or packaged cookies that had a little better of an ingredient list, but they were simply not as good, no way around it.

 Ready-To-Bake-Easy-Cookies(4)

I decided to hunt down a perfect cookie dough that I could easily make myself.  And that would NOT go flat. Taste like ready-to-bake but be homemade.

I would have my own ready to bake cookies with ingredients that I chose myself.  No more mysterious maltodextrin, cellulose gum, xanthan, high fructose corn syrup, or other bullshit.  ONLY ingredients of my choosing.

At the very least, I can pick my own poison.

 Ready-To-Bake-Easy-Cookies

The recipe from Averie Cooks: Softbatch Cream Cheese Chocolate-Chocolate Chip Cookies is the bees knees.

The hard part for me was always finding a recipe I could make myself that was a NO FAIL win & this recipe is the golden ticket.

I roll the cookies into super small balls & freeze them in separate containers of about 8.  That way I can easily grab a pack of balls out of the freezer & stick it in the refrigerator for my own homemade, ready-to-bake cookies.

Also, as I’m practicing portion control, really small cookies will do the trick.

I should note, I’m not a huge chocolate fan but these cookies are delicious & completely satisfying.  For chocolate lovers or non-chocolate lovers.

{Full disclosure, Wafiq was helping me roll balls the other day & they were the size of my hand.  To each their own.}

My homemade ready-to-bake cookies! Perfect size containers: HERE

These cookies are perfect for a quick dessert that tastes totally homemade but they’re so easy & simple to keep on hand it’s rather unbelievable.

 Ready-To-Bake-Easy-Cookies(4)

Give them a try!  And don’t ever buy the ready-to-bake kind, maybe I was on my own as I traveled down that road but admitting the problem is the first step to recovery.

 Ready-To-Bake-Easy-Cookies(4)

Anyone have a cookie recipe that they can freeze & bake later but still tastes extra delicious??

Have a great week & be thoughtful.

Why Non Yoga People Need to Be Doing Yoga

Did You Know?  “The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart. “Nama” means bow, “as” means I, and “te” means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means “bow me you” or “I bow to you.” ” ( v i a )

This is not another Yogi post!  I prefer aggressive workouts – fighting, running, sweating, moving, hitting, pushing, jumping.  (Aggression issues?)  I grew up playing soccer & competition runs through me.  I like competing with myself, or Wafiq, whenever possible.  Recently, I decided in order to balance the muscle tightening workouts, I needed to find a way to gain flexibility.

Yoga for Anxiety

Flexible bitches are sexy.  They bend.  Any direction, any time.

And I’ve always been jealous.  Since joining a workout camp my muscles feel tighter than normal & I slowly started seeing any hint of hot girl flexibility leaving my body.   In order to quickly implement a solution I knew I needed to start Yoga.  The problem is, I wasn’t willing to compromise my daily workout camp with Yoga, so when would I find the time?!

Even though I’m NOT a morning person I thought rolling myself out of bed 30 minutes earlier to do Yoga would be manageable. At least for a month or until I came up with a Plan B.

It’s been more than a month since I made this decision, and I have shocking news to share.

I’ve been waking up every single morning & doing a Yoga Camp I found on YouTube.  This alone says A LOT.  I can’t tell you how much I despise getting up early.  I’ve never dreamed or aspired to be a morning person.  I don’t like the morning.  All the perfect people are awake at that time and I don’t fit in.

Since doing Yoga, while it’s still dark in the morning, I haven’t had any trouble waking up – I actually look forward to it. (?!?)

Yoga for anxiety

Essential Oil Diffuser: Here

However, the greatest benefit I’ve noticed from doing Yoga has not been the hot girl flexibility I was looking for, it’s been something much harder to tackle – ANXIETY.  In the last 6 months or so I’ve seen the evil side of anxiety & received a major wake up call to pay attention to it.  Although I heard Yoga helps anxiety I didn’t realize how much it would help.     Swear to baby Jesus, had I known my whole life how much Yoga would help mental health, I would’ve started as a child.

Flexibility would be an awesome perk, but it’s no longer my greatest benefit.  The mindset I’m able to take away from Yoga each morning effects my entire day.  Life changing. Yes, life changing.

 Yoga for anxiety

I know Yoga people say this all the time – but take it from a very NON Yoga person.  You have to try this in the morning!  It could change everything!

I wake up, go to my living room, turn on my little string lights so the room is still pretty dark, and practice my Yoga video of the day.  Me & my princess doggie together in the quiet with the video playing off my phone. So easy.

Here’s where you need to start:  Yoga Camp

ANYONE can do it.  No knowledge, flexibility, age or excuse required.

I recommend starting each morning like this, and really stick to it for the entire 30 days.   Have the same mentality I did.  There’s no pressure, it’s quick & easy, so why not see what happens?  Maybe you’ll gain the flexibility you’re missing, get in shape, tone your arms, or have a positive start to your day.  If you’re dealing with anxiety in any way, shape, or form – get on it!  Tomorrow morning.

Normally Yoga is fucking $$$$.  This is FREE.  FREE.  FREE.  We love FREE medicine/workouts.

I’ll follow up in a few months & let you know if I have hot girl flexibility from morning Yoga – I can’t deny that that’s important too 🙂

Yoga thoughts?!

Have a great day, stay positive, and be thoughtful.

White Bean & Spinach Comfort Soup

Did you know?  As little as 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon daily can have positive effects on blood sugar levels, digestion, immunity, and more. Stronger doses are also extremely beneficial for improving heart disease risk and cutting risk for diabetes, cancer, and neuro-degenerative diseases. ( v i a )

For those of you that are cold and looking out the window to snowy days & frozen eyelashes, be grateful.  To have winter means you likely have the privilege of enjoying 4, individually beautiful, seasons.  I spent 18 years hating the snow & literally chose my college based on physical location – the farthest point away from snow that I could get. But here I am missing the variety of weather that I once took for granted.

White-Bean-Spinach-Comfort-Soup(2)

On another note, today we’re making soup.  I’ve been eating this soup for years & currently have pounds of it frozen in my freezer waiting for our lunch date together.

I wanted to share with you because it’s incredibly simple, super tasty, affordable, fast, fancy, healthy, and makes enough for everyone + some. And you can easily add loads of garlic & consume with ease, meaning if you’re ever sick – eat this instead of sugar infused Sprite or vitamin C powder.

White-Bean-Spinach-Comfort-Soup(3)

White Bean & Spinach Comfort Soup

Ingredients:

3 Tablespoons Coconut Oil

2 Cans White Beans (Cannoli Beans, Northern Beans, White Kidney Beans – anything similar.  Rinsed & Drained.  For a real curve ball, mash half of the beans with your hands so they become clumpy – this will add a little texture to your soup and a little realness to your hands. )

4+ Cups Fresh Spinach (Rinsed)

15 Cloves of Garlic (Peeled & Chopped)

1 Large Yellow Onion (Diced)

1 Teaspoon each – Salt & Pepper

1 Tablespoon Cumin

1 teaspoon Cayenne

1 teaspoon Cinnamon

Lemon

6 Cups broth

Optional: Parmesan Cheese

Optional: Plain Yogurt

Optional: Sliced Pancetta or precooked Sausage sliced & rolled into balls

Directions:  Heat a deep soup pan over Medium/High heat with 3 Tablespoons Coconut Oil.  Coconut Oil is the shit, I always go heavy on it.  When oil is melted, throw in onion & garlic.  Add Salt & Pepper.  Stir until onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.  (If garlic starts to burn, turn down the heat.  If adding Pancetta, mix in once onions & garlic are near done & stir for another minute.) Next, add the spinach.  Continue mixing as the spinach slowly mixes down into the onions and garlic, about 5 minutes. Once the spinach is mixed well and melted down nicely, add more spinach. Jk. (Unless you want to.)  Then add all the spices, mix well.  Add Beans.  Mix well.  Pour broth over mix & turn the heat to high until it begins to boil.  (Throw in sausage balls if you choose to use them.) When boiling, lower to a simmer & let sit for at least 20 minutes, longer if you have time.

To eat: Squeeze tons of lemon on top.  Add fresh garlic if you’re sick, it will blend in nicely.  Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top OR skip the cheese & lump a spoonful of plain yogurt on top.  Add fresh ground pepper.  Eat with sourdough toast.  The options are honestly endless.  My personal fav: tons of lemon juice, yogurt, and fresh pepper with a side of toast.

White-Bean-Spinach-Comfort-Soup

You’ll make this soup & think it’s too easy to be delicious.  How and why?  You’ll want to put more effort into cooking your dinner.  How can you make such a fantastic impression as a chef with such minimal work?  Don’t tell anyone how easy it was – that’s how.  You worked fucking hard for a good 5 minutes. You’re a champion.  Well done.

 White-Bean-Spinach-Comfort-Soup(4)

This is my go-to, quick, healthy dinner.    I also love spaghetti but haven’t figured out how to make the carbs look good on my waistline, I’ll let you know when I discover the trick.

Anyone else have secret, “super hard” recipes to share?  I have another one for cookies that I plan on sharing soon..

Have a great weekend and remember, be thoughtful!

Glinda’s Healing Garlic Salsa

Garlic is my best friend.  It has special healing powers & knowing that makes me feel like Glinda the good witch.

Garlic-Salsa-Recipe

Like I’ve mentioned, in order to see the benefits of garlic as I have, you have to eat A TON of it.  Healing powers don’t come easily.  And whenever I tell someone to eat bulbs of garlic they cringe & ask how.

This recipe is the easiest way I’ve found to consume large amounts of garlic:

Glinda’s Garlic Salsa

2 small Tomatoes Diced super small

Juice of 2 Lemons

Juice of 2 Limes

1/2 White Onion Diced super small

4 Cloves of Garlic Diced

Pepper

Directions: Mix all ingredients together.  Enjoy!

Garlic-Salsa-Recipe

At least one dinner a week I’ll mix this Glinda’s Garlic Salsa together & serve w/food.   (Goes BEST w/white basmati rice.)

If I was sick, I would be adding 10x the amount of garlic.

But for your average, garlic consuming days, this is a great amount.  I always use as much garlic as I can handle – with this recipe & any other recipe.  Push garlic to my limits!

Start making this a staple in your house & keep those sicknesses aaaa way!

If you have any other power foods I need to hear about, please share with me.

Or, if you want to send me pics of large garlic cloves, I’m down for that too.

I’m off to finish watching the Democratic National Convention… This is the first year in my life I’m paying attention to politics –> basically I’m listening to everyone talk and then cry & support them… until the next person speaks & I start supporting them.  {I’m WAY not meant for the game that is politics.}

Happy Thursday everyone, have positive thoughts today & everyday – cuz why not!

My Best Friend – Garlic

My favorite topic of all time = GARLIC!

Garlic-As-Medicine

My most viewed post, hands down, is about the time I had shingles & used garlic as medicine.

I recently went back to read the post and eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Painful! But also badass. I’m proud of myself.

For anyone who hasn’t read the post, about 2 years ago I diagnosed myself with shingles while I was living in Dubai. I think it was due to stress? I’m not exactly sure why or how I got them but I know I was pretty stressed at the time, which I read can weaken your immune system.

I didn’t have insurance so I had to do a little investigating of my own to find a solution because GOOD LORD THAT WAS THE WORST PAIN EVER!!! EVER.

I scrolled all day through Pinterest & Google, tried a couple different medicines from the pharmacy, and finally landed on an article that mentioned: Garlic. It’s those articles at the bottom of the search pages that always catch my eye when I’m looking for home remedies. They’re not paid for, they’re not trendy, and they’re the most likely to be tried & true.

I put 1 huge BULB of garlic in juice 2x a day. Maybe 3x the first day. And drank it. Yes, I was super nauseous. Yes, it was disgusting. BUT I kid you not, my shingles dried up SIGNIFICANTLY the next day. No more fresh blisters, no more zinging nerve pain.

I think I cried.

And, (knock on wood) I haven’t had shingles since then.

Here’s the deal with garlic ( v i a / v i a ):

  • 3 cloves of garlic have the same antibacterial activity as a standard dose of penicillin

  • Anti-Viral + Anti -Bacterial + Anti-fungal = Need I say more?

  • Boosts immune system, manages blood pressure, heart health, cancer prevention, aids in digestion – the list goes on.

  • Eating garlic regularly is not only good for us; it has been linked to reversing the 4 major causes of death worldwide including heart disease, stroke, cancer and infections

Garlic-As-Medicine

Guys. I’m in love with Garlic. A passionate love. After seeing how incredible garlic was for my shingles, I’ve been eating it every day since and obsess over it.

I add it to EVERY SINGLE MEAL: Salad, pasta, chicken, fish, tacos, stir fry, eggs, salsa, curry, literally every meal – I add garlic. And a lot of it. Several CLOVES.

Quick story… everyone thought I was coo-coo with my garlic obsession.  Luckily, Wafiq needed emergency surgery in New York. Ok, not luckily, BUT I saw an opportunity. I was going to see if garlic would heal his wounds quickly. Honestly, to prove to myself that garlic was actually a miracle medicine.

When we got to Austin I had Wafiq eat almost 2 BULBS of FRESH, chopped garlic. (He put it on rice with Chicken.) Before we went to bed he jokingly said (as one of his wounds was protruding and bruised, almost bleeding): “Imagine I wake up in the morning and my cuts are healed”. This is after 3 days of dealing w/nasty incision marks.

Well well well Mr. Wakiki look what happened in the morning.

I’m not lying, those damn cuts were sealed up & looking healthy as ever! Right away we both regretted not taking a before and after pictures.

Garlic-As-Medicine

I can’t praise garlic enough. I talk about it all the time to my friends, I keep pictures of big ass garlic cloves that I find on my phone, and I like to leave bulbs on the kitchen counter so I can stare at them. Garlic is the reason I believe food is more powerful than we know & makes me want to raid the internet all day for other secrets.

I am NOT a doctor, or even close to it. You should definitely go to the doctor if you have an injury, or rash, especially one that appears to be shingles!

But if I can eat a ton of something & see such amazing benefits than it’s worth sharing.

If you haven’t met garlic yet, please set a date. Get to know each other & be ready to fall in love like I have.

Who has other good secrets?

Self Diagnosed with Shingles, Ouch!

The three worst physical pains in my life so far, in order:

1. Dry Sockets

2. Shingles

3. Shattering my shoulder

I thought very hard about 1 and 2. Which was worse?  The pain of dry sockets was worse but there was a quick solution.  Shingles was a VERY close second on the pain scale and lasted longer with no quick solution. So overall, shingles was worse.

I’ll start from the beginning. I woke up one morning about 2 weeks ago, right after I posted about attempting Ramadan traditions, with an enormously aching shoulder. I tend to have pain in my right shoulder if I sleep on it wrong because there’s metal in there from a previous surgery, but this aching seemed too much. Almost my entire arm all the way to my neck.

When I went to change my clothes for the day I noticed a few little bumps right on the edge of my shoulder. It must be bed bugs or ants or something. Weird, their venom made my whole arm ache.  I didn’t care. Or think twice. Bugs adore my beautiful scent & bite me all the time out of affection so I understood these bites and took no bother to them <– Flattering really.

Next morning.  More bumps.

Ok, now this is annoying. Especially because later in the day I noticed the bumps were filled with liquid. Great.  So I looked up what ant bites and bed bug bites look like.  The only weird part was that they didn’t itch at all, only burned when touched.  And how did these little bugs know to bite the same part of my body every night? Ignored it.

By the end of the day I had to leave work from the burning pain. This had to be solved right away. These damn bugs.

When I got home I put on a sleeveless shirt so I could really examine the area.

These were not bug bites, no way Jose. The rash went from my upper arm to my neck. It must be an allergic reaction I was told. But I kept thinking, to what?  I haven’t done one single new thing that would cause this. And usually when I have allergies to something I itch really bad. My mouth itches, my skin itches and turns patchy red. Allergies didn’t seem right in my head but I liked the sound of it so I agreed.

Then I went to my doctor, cancer curing friend Juliana, in the States. Ok, she’s not a doctor, and she hasn’t cured cancer… yet.  But she likes stuff like this and randomly knows everything. I took a couple photo’s, explained my symptoms and she said, could that be shingles? It’s only common in older people though so that would be weird.

I looked it up and immediately thought, yes! This is shingles! These symptoms are EXACTLY the symptoms I’m having. Pictures match. Everything.  And that was the beginning of the most painful week of my life.

For the sake of not grossing anyone out, this is the most pleasant photo I have of the rash. This was day 2. It eventually covered my right shoulder.

For the sake of not grossing anyone out, this is the most pleasant photo I have of the rash. This was day 2. It eventually lined my right shoulder.

I never went to get doctor approval that this rash is shingles. Maybe because I didn’t have money to go, didn’t trust the doctor, or maybe because I was scared I was dying quickly and would rather do that in peace? Anyways, I didn’t go.  But I went to the pharmacist who took a look & confirmed to the best of her knowledge it was a viral rash growing on my shoulder. Apparently the clumps of blisters gave it away. She gave me some antiviral medicine.

In my doctor playing skills and attempt to cure myself without prescriptions I started drinking garlic juice.  I read somewhere garlic was used back in the day as medicine.  Apparently, garlic is antiviral and antibacterial.  You could say I drank about two bulbs? Bulbs is what you call the entire bunch of garlic right? Not a clove. A bulb. I drank probably 2 bulbs a day. I smelt really bad, but I felt really great. Right away. I’m so serious. And I’m so serious, I know how ridiculous I sound.  Laugh all you want, but I owe garlic a big hug. Garlic with some apples, lemons, and ginger in juice form. Just like having a spaghetti meal dinner 🙂

Garlic-As-Medicine

Long story short, I couldn’t participate in Ramadan fasting. I had to eat with the medicine I took every four hours for a week and of course drink my garlic juice. I won’t be able to write another post about my beautiful month long fasting experience because the past couple weeks have been the closest feeling to torture I can imagine.  But I still have a week to hop back on the Ramadan fasting train and experience it while I can. I’ll be able to report back on that… Hopefully the next few weeks will be better than the last.

Moral of the story = do not stress out and drink garlic juice!

If you’ve ever had shingles OR used garlic for your own medicinal purposes please share!

Beauty, I recommend...

Olive Oil + Hair

I saved my life.  More like my hair’s life.  I have super long, thick, blonde hair that has been severely neglected since my move to Dubai.

I rarely wash it, which is a good thing by the way. I try to go as many days as possible in the most extreme ways not to wash my hair. (The key is finding different ways to wear your hair the second & third/fourth/fifth day without a wash. You can do it!)

BUT, the problem comes the days I choose to wash my locks. I’ve been using shampoo that I believe physically assaults my hair. I’m nearly positive it’s crying when I put the shampoo through it & it continues to cry until it gets oily again. In truth, my hair has probably been crying since I landed in Dubai.

I used to buy expensive shampoo + conditioner because I spend a lot of money highlighting, therefore I need to make it last as looong as possible. I also don’t want to waste the money I spent highlighting, by ruing my hair with bad product. Miss High Maintenance, Hiiii 🙂

Well that all went out the window when I got to Dubai. I RARELY do my hair. And when I do put in effort, it pretty much means half blow drying it & leaving it down. Most often I braid it or put it up in a bun.

The neglect started because I ran out of shampoo & couldn’t find the one I was previously using. Then, I found some pieces of my hair that I think missed my last trim so I cut them myself..? I’ve never done that before.  Between nasty shampoo and a self trim, I pretty much thought my hair was treacherous.  I started putting it in a ponytail every single day, which again I don’t think is good for your hair. The color started fading (probably just in my head) and it turned into rupunzel length. Ew.

So I booked an appointment to get my hair cut & highlighted. BUT, I was completely terrified to show up to a nice salon with my hair being dried out & disgusting. I went to pinterest in last minute efforts to find a solution that could fake maintained looking hair until it was fixed.

Olive Oil.

That was what I kept finding. Olive oil with eggs, olive oil with water, 1 tablespoon, warmed up, towel on your head, 30 minutes, twice a week, clean, dry hair blah blah blah. The timing never worked for me. When would my head be completely dry? I barely know what a blow dryer is at this point and after the 2 days it takes to air dry I usually work out, then immediately shower. Finding the right time was just exhausting.

One day, I had it. I couldn’t believe I was surviving day to day with hair like this. What has happened to me?! I had nothing to lose because my hair was a complete disaster, it couldn’t get worse. SO, I walked into the kitchen. Took out the olive oil. Poured a HANDFUL of olive oil into my hand. Slathered it all over my hair. Everywhere. Roots, ends, and in between. Underneath, on top, I mean everywhere! My hair was GREASY. It was drenched in olive oil.

...This is an example of what I probably should have done. Found on Pinterest.
…This is an example of what I probably should have done. Found on Pinterest.

I looked in the mirror. I was happy.

The hair was out of my face & felt smooth.

Great.

Grease head. This is new.

I like it.

I think I left it in for half a day. Several hours.  I exercised with my hair like this (the sweat rolled off my head into my eyes more than normal, later realizing this was because it didn’t sit in my hair, it ran off because of the oil 😉 ). I watched TV, sent some emails, spoke on the phone, cooked. Half of the entire day my hair was drenched in olive oil.

There were only a few points I stopped to think – what if I can’t get this stuff out? Screw it, then I could go to the salon and say I tried doing this olive oil hair mask I saw on pinterest and it failed miserably. That would be much better than the truth: My hair looked like s***. I panicked. Poured all the olive oil from my kitchen on my head… and left it for the entire day.

When the sad time finally came to shower and wash out this new grease head, kitchen smelling, style of mine I was feeling sadness. Back to the dry, nasty, straggly strands. I’ll have to put olive oil again tomorrow 😉

Here’s where the pleasant surprise comes. When I shampooed my hair with the same life sucking shampoo that I normally use I noticed a difference. Once I got out of the shower I didn’t notice my hair crying as much. I could brush it a little easier. The smell wasn’t the greatest but it could brush through, it had moisture. What’s going on here? Did olive oil bring life back to my hair?! Couldn’t be.

YES! People, yes it did. This half day of cheap knock off olive oil completely saved my hair. I’m serious when I say I felt a HUGE difference. I don’t even want to cut it off anymore. It’s so precious and moisturized! I love it! How did I not think of this earlier?! The oil seemed to wash out just fine, my hair isn’t extra oily or gross, it’s perfect. Just perfect. From the roots to the ends.

I must say – I have really dry skin and dry hair. I don’t have oily hair at all so I don’t know what this would do for someone who does. If I were you, I would still try it but I’m a risk taker. Maybe just at the ends?  I also highlight my hair & I’m not sure what olive oil does to the color? For all I know, it strips the color right out of it.  In my excited opinion, the moisture it provides is worth it. If you have all grey/white hair and it strips all the color out, at least you can thank me for making it the most moisturized, slamming hot, shinny grey/white there is! And that’s hard to buy.

I left out the heated, eggs, water, towel parts of the directions and put way more than a tablespoon in my hair for much longer than 30 minutes… But it still worked miracles!

P.S. Sorry I didn’t take photo’s. I never imagined this post existing prior to this experiment. Couldn’t imagine it actually working!

Anyone else slather olive oil in their hair? Just me?

Have a light day, stay creative & be thoughtful!

Xx
