How To Wear A White Dress – Mistake Free!

Did You Know? The theory for the fashion rule to wear white after Memorial day started at the height of its popularity, the color white signified upper class and refinement. You wore white at summer resorts and society events, while the masses wore drab colors as they labored away. “By the 1880s, in order to tell who was acceptable and who wasn’t, the women who were already ‘in’ felt it necessary to create dozens of fashion rules that everyone in the know had to follow…That way, if a woman showed up at the opera in a dress that cost more than most Americans made in a year, but it had the wrong sleeve length, other women would know not to give her the time of day.”

( v i a )

YAY! ALL WHITE EVERYTHING!

I love wearing white. The color is fresh, clean, young and classy.  I feel like white is a perfect color for any occasion and is definitely a go-to for me.

I used to fear white.  I either risk my outfit getting dirty (hello spray tan) or wearing a fabric that was see through & revealing of all my precious undergarments.

However, I fear no more! Mostly because I don’t care if either of those accidents happen, but also because I’ve mastered avoiding them.

How-I-wear-White

How I Wear White, Mistake Free:

Start with the White Dress:

I wear white shorts & pants all the time, but dresses are also an easy option.  To avoid anything see through or too revealing go for a flowy style or a piece w/layers. I avoid maxi dresses that are white & super long because that’s more fabric to get sabotaged by dirt or stains.

Add Bright Shoes:

The fun part about white is that it matches everything. I’ve been known to pull out my hot pink heels when I wear white because the pop of color adds dimension, if you ask me.  It takes away from concentrating too hard on the dress.  If you’re trying to be a little more casual, white also looks classy & pretty with a nude shoe.

And A Bright Lip:

You’re either doing a bright lip, bright shoe, or both!  This lip stain does NOT move.  Once it’s dry, you really don’t have to worry too much about getting it on your outfit. And a bright lip really pops when you’re wearing all white. I love that combo on anyone!  OoOoO la la

Classic Gold Jewelry:

Subtle gold jewelry, tan skin, and a white dress?!  Yes!  To keep it smooth & classic, go for these skinny chains. Subtle, but the perfect detail for pulling all the pieces together.  I realized when you add a simple piece of jewelry it shows effort. HA! I used to always skip little jewelry, too lazy.

Oil Up w/Avocado Oil:

This one & my next are the biggest secrets.  I’ve been using Avocado Oil as moisturizer lately, it’s not very greasy & soaks in the skin just right.  I would typically recommend a bronzing lotion because I’m obsessed with fake tans but when you’re wearing white that can be a little risky.  Avocado Oil will shine perfectly on your bronzed skin to help you glow – without risking stain.  I put oil on any skin that’s showing!  Also, if you have a spray tan, make sure you do 1 day & 1 shower before your big white moment.  That ways the tan is super stuck on your skin & won’t make your dress brown. You get it.

Never Skip the Highlighter:

The key to life throughout the summer? Highlighter.  Who doesn’t want to glow?! I put it on my shoulders & collar bone, if they’re showing.  It really helps everything POP!

And Finally, Makeup:

Less is more when it comes to wearing makeup while you’re wearing white! Especially if you’re in a hot weather area where make up tends to slide after a while.  There’s nothing worse than foundation marks on your fresh white clothing, right?!  That’s my nightmare, looks cheap & high maintenance to me.  So, I do my face routine that I do for work days – concealer, highlighter, maybe blush & a little bronzer, then my eyes.  But that’s it!  You don’t want to risk touching your face & having the product transfer to your clothes.

Welcome Memorial Day & the summer heat! Welcome! Today, I walked outside my apartment & actually had a hard time breathing because the humidity & heat was so thick it felt like I was breathing under water. (Dramatic?) Anyone else feel me?! NOT a hot person, most definitely dreaming of a thick snow storm.

Also… note, Last Man Standing was canceled. I found out the news yesterday.  I’ve only watched the entire season through about 4 times on Netflix so I was really depending on fresh, new seasons to start soon. Anyone have other light comedy sitcoms to share?  I’m totally open to cheesy.

Have a great weekend everyone!  Be thoughtful,

Xx

The Best Sports Bra to Hold In Your Ting Tangs

Did You Know? Women simply don’t have the genetic potential to develop bulky muscles. They don’t have sufficient amounts of testosterone — the hormone largely responsible for the development of muscle bulk.

( v i a )

If you’ve ever struggled finding a good sports bra that isn’t $1,000 then you’ll understand this post.  I played sports a lot when I was younger and have always enjoyed running or working out so a sports bra is an essential part of my closet.  I don’t care if they’re cute,  I care that they hold my ting tangs still.  I HATED the times I’d be wearing a bra that wasn’t strong enough & my ting tang’s bounced around for everyone to see during my runs.  UGH, also so unflattering. Oooga Oooga Oooga. Just no. No. No.

Victoria Secret sports bra

Classic Black (HERE) // Pretty Nude (HERE) // Zip Front (HERE)

This reminds of the time Wafiq & I were hiking this very popular hill in Los Angeles and we saw this woman we nicknamed: “Dagger Tits”.

She came plowing down the hill, full speed ahead.  Super athletic, marine woman – confident.  Wearing a very little, ocean blue, Yoga style, triangle bra covering each of her areolas.  Unfortunately, her small breasts went up & down so severely it was if they were each a gun being shot off in an old western stand-off.  Pew pew pew pew!  Cutting the air like a sharp blade.  Pointed. Up, then down, then up! Then down.  We cringed in pain.  We may lose a breast here.  That is one of the many moments I can use to advocate the importance of a strong sports bra.

Anyways, I doubted the Victoria’s Secret sports bras for a long time because they’re cute, they claim to be “push ups, and VS is not known as an athletic company.  Not the formula for nailing down the chest.

Until recently when I needed new sports bras & I was totally unhappy with what I had.  I knew there had to be better & I could only hope at an affordable price…

Because I found this Victoria’s Secret sports bra for $35 I thought – fuck it.  Why not give it a try, better than spending tons of money on another one that might not even work.

Well, lets thank the heavens because this bad boy holds your ting tangs STILL.  And the bra is cute, comfortable, AND affordable!  I went back the next day & bought 3 more.  I’m not sure what girls with little chesties will think, I’m sure that’s an entire different situation – but if you want something to hold everything in, this is it!

Side note, the bra’s with the clips on the back like this one: HERE, can dig into your back a little if you’re doing something laying down.  Not awful but if you’re sensitive, take that into consideration.  Don’t worry, there’s also options where the bra clips in the front, like this one: HERE.

If you’re having trouble staying motivated for your work outs try buying some new workout gear that you’re excited to wear.  It sounds silly but really makes a difference.  It makes you really want to get out there & work hard! Feel good.  Look good. Workout good.

That’s it for my Monday!  Off to celebrate my dog learning to fetch me her Kong for peanut butter treats! OUI!

Have a great day, and be thoughtful,

Xx

Three Wish Worthy Easter Dresses

Did You Know?  67% of Millennials and 56% of Gen Xers prefer to shop on online rather than in-store.

( v i a )

Happy Monday!

I made the mistake of trying to go shopping recently & immediately regretted my decision to skip shopping online… Ughhhh… is anyone else online only?!  It’s so much easier than parking at a mall, going into a crowded store, digging around for your size, (and most recently) dealing with the hottest dressing room of all time!

So, I’m back to strictly online shopping & spent the weekend looking for Easter/Spring looks.   Spring is my favorite because I get to wear flowers, pastels, lace, pink, dresses – everything that runs through my blood.

Spring-Dresses

Three Wish Worthy Easter Dresses:

Natasha Ruffle Bodycon Dress

I like dresses that can multi-task.  Something that I feel like a girl in but can dress up for a sexy little night out or dress down for a casual day at brunch.  P.S Nasty Gal’s inventory is always changing & with their sales you can count on finding budget friendly options.  (Similar: HERE)

White Garden Party Maxi Dress

Works for Easter or any day this Spring, right?  I’m not always about the long, flowy, maxi dresses because they’re so loose & allow too much room to comfortably eat – several days of that in a row will add major pounds to my waistline without even knowing… But I think one really pretty maxi for Spring is manageable.  (Similar: HERE)

Jumpsuit with Frill Peplum in Scuba Crepe

If you haven’t noticed from Instagram, I would wear a jumpsuit every single day.  I bring my dog with me everywhere I go, even places that are a little more formal – so I prefer wearing something a step up from my workout tights.  Jumpsuits allow me to manage the dog without showing my hoo-ha, & look decent.  (Plus, I’m loving hot pink… always.)

Have a great week everyone!  I’m about to start the Last Man Standing series on Netflix for the 3rd time in a row… It’s too funny & I hate to admit, has possibly tied New Girl for my fav shows. I watch the episodes over & over & over… & over. Wafiq hates me.

Enjoy your day & be thoughtful

Xx

5 Things I Can’t Go A Day Without

Did You Know? 68% of the people suffer from Phantom Vibration Syndrome, the feeling that one’s phone is vibrating when it’s not. ( v i a )

I love investigating peoples routines & what they do every single day, meaning they’re obsessed.  For a long time that was Target for me.  Not a product, but a place.  I went to Target all the time & it was the one thing I desperately missed when I was out of the country.  I’ve gotten it together since then.  (*Amazon Prime*)

But of course, there are still products you use every single day that you can’t go without & those are the secret’s I need to know about!

Below are mine…

5 Things I use Every Day

5 Things I Can’t Go A Single Day Without:

1. Coconut Oil:

I’ve recently started experimenting with other oils as moisturizer, which I’ll update on later, but I still use coconut oil every single day in the kitchen.  I love the taste it brings to a dish.  I use it as oil when sautéing, mix it in my oatmeal for breakfast, or give my little doggie a spoonful as a treat.    I prefer cooking fresh meals as often as possible & coconut oil goes right along with that – I use it for everything in the kitchen & I love that it doubles as a use for pretty much anything else.

2. Hair Clips:

I can’t go through an entire day without using a hair clip.  My entire life I’ve had long, thick hair which I’ve loved but have only been able to manage with a tight ponytail.  I started hating the huge line mark that a tight  ponytail was making so I made the brave switch to hair clips & haven’t looked back.  I either: 1. Half dry my hair & twirl it into a bun, securing with a clip 2. Pull half my hair up once wearing it down has had its moment  3. Clip up when I get out of the shower when my hair is still wet.

Keep in mind, hair clips give your hair room to move so you’re less likely to have breakage.  And I should note, I currently do not own a curling iron so the only way I achieve any volume or curl is by wearing my hair in a bun w/a clip all day or overnight.. When I let it down, BOOM – curls.

3. White Shoes:

They’re too easy.  I wear these either letting my dog out in the morning, at work, after work, a quick run to the grocery story, the beach, with a fancy dress for a night out… Shit, I’ll wear them with anything, anywhere.  I buy a new pair OFTEN because they’re so affordable & there’s nothing better than clean, bright white shoes.

4. Moisturizer / Chapstick:

Cannot survive a day without my moisturizer.   I’ve always had super dry skin & I’m pretty much always trying to hold a self tan, so a moisturizer is an absolute MUST.  The past year I’ve been using my oil of choice & this Tepez Cream.   My face is super sensitive & will break out if you look at it incorrectly, so I’ve tried TONS of products that haven’t worked.  Oils & Tepez Cream never let me down – but I’m still looking.  Anyone have a fantastic moisturizer or eye cream that pumps in moisture they swear by?!  I’ll send you a thank you note if you tell me your secrets… Seriously.

And of course I carry chapstick everywhere.  The one place I NEED it daily is next to my bed.  I smear it on before I sleep and it moisturizes my lips all night long so I wake up fresh.  I can’t fall asleep without it.

5. Huge Sunglasses:

Even on a cloudy day I’m wearing sunglasses if I’m outside (or in a bright room?).  I can’t stand the strain on my eyes from squinting.  Once you realize how much huge, dark sunglasses helps your eyes you’ll never be able to go a day without them.   {They also come in handy when you’re super hungover, at the grocery store, buying frozen pizza, and run into your ex boyfriend.}

When I think about the things I can’t go without, these come to mind.  I feel like each of them serves a purpose in my day to day functioning, including my $15 H&M pants I was wearing in my recent Instagram pic.  As long as I have these items, I’m good to go, ready to conquer the world!

What products can’t you live without?

Have a great week & be thoughtful!

Xx

3 Sassy, Affordable Online Stores & A Few Tips for Shopping Online

Did You Know?   Could 2017 be the end of shopping malls?  JCPenney announced Friday that it would close up to 140 stores in the next couple of months.  That follows decisions by Macy’s & Sears to close a collective 218 stores in the first half of the year. Other mall-based stores including American Apparel, The Limited, Bebe, BCBG, & Payless have also recently announced that they are shutting down all or most of their stores. ( v i a )

I feel like I’m giving away my biggest secret here… You know I’m obsessed with online shopping, specifically Amazon.  I literally buy everything off Amazon, I’m currently waiting for Banana Nut Cliff Bars.  When I have conversations with other Amazon addicts I get hot & heavy.  Really spikes my heart beat.

Favorite Online Stores

Since this discovery I wanted the same freedoms for clothing, mostly because my anxiety is the devil & going into shopping malls is hot & overwhelming – at least all the shopping malls near my house feel that way.

Enter, the following websites… They rescued me from overwhelming shopping malls that are always too hot, full of people, the pretty clothes piled up on the floor & long lines in fitting rooms.  Nastiness.

Wafiq is proud to report I haven’t dragged him into the mall in ages!  WOOT WOOT!

Favorite-Online-Stores(3)_

ASOS: Here

1. Asos

Asos is the go-to clothing website for anyone & any style.  In college, I used to find the most affordable dresses possible – whether for Saturday nights or weddings, and my budget was a powerful $10.

Now, I use Asos for the variety of styles & accessories the website has for both myself & Wafiq.    What makes Asos different than the other 2 websites I go to is the variety of brands, which you can see in the range of choices.    There’s something for everyone!

Some of my favorite brands that I find on ASOS:  Miss Selfridge, River Island & ASOS Brand.  They also have an awesome unlimited 2 day shipping policy for $19.99/year!

Favorite-Online-Stores

Wedding, prom, or a casual Saturday in Sequins? Windsor Store: Here

2. Windsor

The only thing I don’t like about Windsor is the shipping.  There’s never free shipping for budget shoppers! You know those annoying specials: “Spend $3M, get free shipping” ?! What!? No. I want to spend $19.99, only!

BUT, I love pretty much everything else about Windsor.  They’re constantly changing their inventory so there’s new pieces being added all the time.  I ordered a gown for the wedding we attended in Mexico & I couldn’t have been more impressed.  The dress was affordable & fit like a glove.  Because of the price I was concerned it would be poor quality but I was pleasantly surprised, as I have been with all my orders from Windsor.  LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Favorite-Online-Stores

Sassy T Shirt Dresses? Missguided: Here

3. Missguided

Missguided’s inventory goes on for days x days.  I use Missguided when I want to look… sassy?  The outfits have a little more flare & sex appeal – Oh lala-ness?!  You’ll get what I mean when you scroll through.

They also do collaborations with bloggers & fashion designers every once & awhile which makes a fun & affordable adventure down the fashion isle.

Online Fashion Shopping Tips:

  • Watch your favorite websites for sales. Scan through a few of your favorites when you first get online & see if there are any big sales happening << sometimes they’re very random clearing inventory

  • Sign up for mailing lists! This is not an annoying Spam situation, it’s great for the heads up on super sales or free shipping opportunities

  • Free Shipping, always a great idea << Find this opportunity & pounce!

  • Read sizing reviews to find what fits you.  Several online stores now offer sizing reviews for each item of clothing available for purchase.  A great example of this: Lulu’s.

  • Check out the return policy before buying so you know if it’ll be easy to return, if need be

  • Pay attention to expected shipping times!  I’ve ordered items online that have taken 2-3 weeks to receive, which feels like an eternity when I’m used to Amazon Prime.  Plan plan plan if you’re relying on your order

Favorite Online Stores

Online shopping is the best kept secret, if you don’t know where to start it can be overwhelming & you’ll want to surrender to the shopping mall.  But then you’ll be in zone Forever 21 for life!

Once you discover the world of affordable online shopping – you’ll grow into a wonderful adult woman & you feel fashion forward… even if you aren’t.

Having said that, where are your go-to online shopping spots?  Share!!

Be thoughtful today,

Xx

Style, What I Wore

Boost Your October with a Halloween Ready Wardrobe

Queen of searching the internet goes to me, absolutely convinced.  I’m aware that might not be something to brag about as it’s proof of me needing to get a life but here we are.

One of the best parts about the conclusion to summer is the exciting festivities of fall.  Halloween, nice weather, Thanksgiving, nicer weather, Christmas and  anything in between.   I consider myself a festive person & try to fully emerge myself in any celebration I can find.  The idea is to easily change up boring day to day routines by adding a cute festive shirt, a new type of dinner, different music, new friends, random restaurants…   Life is too short to do the same things every day.

halloween-inspiration

Black Dress:

Perfect for a Halloween party you don’t necessarily want to dress up for.  Throw on some cat ears for an extra kick.  I think this dress qualifies as an October festive look, a little cob web yet super pretty vibe happening. Accessorize with all black and a dark lip to truly fulfill the Halloween feel or accessorize with nude shoes & gold jewelry with a red lip to wear throughout the year.

Orange Shirt:

Sometimes the most important place to change up your routine is at work.  You spend so much time at your office you’d be surprised how much a small change can help make the day feel a little easier.  Since you might not want to wear a baby doll dress or cat ears to work, here’s the alternative way to still contribute to the season while at your office chair.

Boo Shirt:

This is cute.  If you’re fully ready to dive into Halloween (because why not) here’s an option that would be fun to rock on any given Sunday.

What’s the costume plan this year??  I tried to convince Wafiq to be Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik but that went down burning.  I’m not a model & he’s not One Direction, apparently we don’t make the cut.  Still brainstorming!  I’ll probably find something the week before Halloween again, but those costumes always turn out the best.  I’ll share some suggestions for you last minuter’s soon.

Off to officially hang up my October window clings! Yep, that’s how I’m going to enjoy my Monday.

Have a great week & be extra thoughtful.

Affordable Office Outfit Series: H&M

Week 3 of affordable, comfortable, EASY office clothes to complete your {I-never-see-the-light-during-the-day} wardrobes comes from H&M!

For me, H&M is either a major hit or a super flop when it comes to affordable office clothing.  Sometimes I’ll go through looooooong phases of being unpleased with the clothes, pricing, OR both.  And other times I’ll end up buying the whole store & walk away spending a little less than $50 (<<< some of the best days of my life).

Right now, we’re in the later of the two options.

affordable-office-style-hm2

H&M is killing it w/their options & pricing at the moment.

Comfortable, basic, affordable clothes to revamp the office wardrobe for CHEAP!  Yes. Please.

I would’ve done an H&M post first, but I know their store locations are not as easy to find as a Target or Forever 21.  I have to say, totally worth shopping online through H&M’s website.  The stores are always so busy!

 affordable-office-style-hm

Pants $10!  (  Similar:  HERE  ) These pants look a little like leggings at the top, as they don’t have belt loops, but they aren’t stretchy & still hold in your legs (LOL is that a thing?) so you won’t look like you rolled out of bed & went to work in yoga pants.  They have them in so many colors & I will be purchasing them all.

Shirt $15!  (  Similar:  HERE  )  Seriously.  This one and about 100 more similar to the one I’m wearing are available at H&M now – I would hop on it!  The mix & match between the pants & shirts, you’ll never need to shop stupid office clothes again #blessed.

I should also note, H&M jewelry has always been the place I like to buy affordable (it’s ok if I lose/break it) items.  They have pretty pieces that don’t tarnish quickly & are super affordable.

 affordable-office-style-hm3

That’s it for my affordable office series!  I really wanted to show you how affordable & easy new office clothes can look at a few super common retailers.

It’s a battle I’m always discussing w/friends – you don’t want to spend $$$$$ on clothes only your computer screen is going to see BUT you have to look like you tried a little for that one time your boss walks in…  I hope this inspired that mission.

As for me, I’m needing to vent that I’m completely over hot weather.  Anyone living somewhere that is cold or slightly cold right now?  Tell me about it please, inspire me to move.  We were out at a fundraiser Saturday & I almost passed out from heat stroke, we’re still pushing 100 degrees!  No thanks, over it.  Until the temps change, you can find me enjoying the comforts of my own A/C.

Have a great week everyone!! Remember to be thoughtful 🙂

Affordable Office Outfit Series: Forever 21

Week 2 of affordable office outfits is coming from Forever 21!

I have a ton of tops from Forever 21 that I would wear to the office every single day & no one would believe how much I paid for them…

affordable-office-outfits_forever21

Full disclosure, in order to stick with completing an entire affordable office outfit from one store I had to try on (what felt like) hundreds of office appropriate pants or skirts – these are what I landed on.

Super affordable, comfortable, & the perfect length.  You can never have enough black pants for the office.

Fall Beauty Wish List

I love the seasons because it’s a CHANGE  – if it was summer all the time then I’d be wearing & doing the same thing every single day. Boring.  So happy fall!  What would we do without you?

I did my research (via the 1,000 page Vogue magazine, Hi Kendall Jenner) and I have a few Fall wish list items for my beauty list:

 Fall-beauty-Wish-list

  1. Black Lips: I’m scared but excited about black lipstick.  It has to be on my wish list because.. It’s a wish.  I’m going to tryyyy wearing it & make a F*** It Friday post about how it went.  I’ve noticed in a TON of designer ad’s their going for a very goth look.  Can this be done in real life? We’ll find out soon enough!

  2. Body Jewels: It’s been the gold body tattoos & now I have feeling body jewels are coming in sparkly!  I’m all about trying something new, borderline ridiculous & shiny so of course body jewels are making my wish list.   We have a huge music festival hitting Austin soon, what perfect timing to try out a new look.

  3. Glitter:  I will never say no, except during the summer.  Wearing glitter in the summer is a complete disaster because it runs all over the place.  Sweat + glitter = Hot mess.  But I’m noticing it’s very acceptable this fall.  I’ve had my eye on this Urban Decay glitter eye liner since last holiday season – now’s the time!

  4. Mustard Eye Shadows: Mustard is my favorite color. At least right now it is.  I want mustard clothing, mustard jewelry, mustard shoes, and now mustard eyes.  Something about the pukey brow palette is working right now.  I’ve heard plenty of reviews about these eye shadow palettes & this particular one is on my fall wish list. Yum.

What’s on your Fall wish lists??

Thankfully, I’ll be going to Minnesota this weekend where I’ll get a taste of fall temperatures.  Much needed!

Have a fantasssstic day & be thoughtful 🙂

I recommend..., Style, What I Wore

Affordable Office Outfit Series: Target

Let’s be real, working at a desk in an office with a tiny window, doesn’t exactly feel like a fashion runway.  The last thing anyone working inside an office wants to do is spend ANY money on office clothes.  Ew…  My friends & I discuss the cheapest ways & places to buy office clothes and not look like we’re wearing items from high school.

Affordable Office Outfit from Target

Because how completely boring to spend a ton of money on items only the creepy dude that comes in once a week will see? Not ideal.

For the next 3 weeks I’m going to give you a conservative, realistic outfit from super affordable, accessible stores to help complete your weekly office uniform – for cheap!  I say office uniform w/confidence.  You only need a couple major pieces to wear throughout each week.  No need to have a huuuuuuge variety, stick to basic essentials & accessorize from there to mix it up.

 Affordable Office Outfit from Target

Also, I KNOW you’re no basic bitch.  This is simply the reality of the situation.  I know after work in your athleisure, then cocktail hour outfits – you’re a hard 10 in your lululemon’s & tiny black dresses.  I’m there with you, but office walls won’t see you and that’s where the skimping needs to happen.  I say skimping hesitantly, these outfits may be affordable, but I think they’re still good for after office activities when necessary.

Office Outfit Number One: Target.

Affordable Office Outfit from Target

This black dress can transition you from summer to fall to winter.  Black never goes out of style & always looks professional no matter the price point.  As it gets cooler, pair it with tights, then a scarf, and eventually big winter jackets & boots.

Below are 4 different ways to change up this ONE black dress – all affordable and available at Target 😉

Affordable-Office-Clothes,-Target

Main Piece:  Black Dress & Nude Purse

Accessorize to change up the look:

1. Watch / Shoes

2. Watch (similar) / Tights / Shoes

3. White Blazer / Shoes / Tights / Watch

4. Scarf / Shoes / Watch (similar)
