Twinkle Twinkle

Did you know? Christmas isn’t a national holiday in Japan—only one percent of the Japanese population is estimated to be Christian—yet a bucket of “Christmas Chicken” (the next best thing to turkey—a meat you can’t find anywhere in Japan) is the go-to meal on the big day. And it’s all thanks to the insanely successful “Kurisumasu ni wa kentakkii!” (Kentucky for Christmas!) marketing campaign in 1974. ( v i a )

Twinkle Twinkle,

Happy Holidays

It really is the sweetest time of the year isn’t it?  All the lights & food & friends. I love it extra amounts because it FINALLY cools off in Texas & I can breathe properly.  There’s nothing like wearing sweaters + being warm and cozy.

I’ve been gone for a quick minute, taking a break for family over Thanksgiving.  My mom came a few weeks early and I came up with this genius idea to paint the entire bedroom set from dark brown to white.  I had no idea how much of a time investment it was going to be!  {I’m immediately remembering why I’m not a DIY person.  Fuuuuck that.}  My mom did pretty much the entire bedroom set all by herself w limited space while I was at work, I feel bad.  But it looks A M A Z I N G!   I had no idea how much the energy of a room can change w the right colors.  The perfect ambience to relax + enjoy.  I went from keeping the bedroom door shut to wanting everyone to go cuddle on the bed & dream of fluffy white puppies.  I’m in the processing of finding lamps, art, organizers, and blankets to match, but as soon as I finish I plan on taking pics  Again, it was a lot of work but the room is LIFE CHANGING.  My mom is a hero (for more reasons than my bedroom set).

christmas crack recipe

This easy Christmas Crack recipe will be up on Instagram SOON!

I went balls out decorating for Christmas already this year.  I’m on a mission to be all ready for Christmas (deco, gifts, outfits) as soon as possible so I can enjoy the season.  Every year gift purchasing gets pushed to the weeks before Christmas – the stores are too busy, you can’t find what you want, and you’re tired, frantic, and broke.  My goal is to be done w everything then sit back and enjoy the weeks ahead. Baking, eating, drinking, movies – stress free!  And I think I’m almost there.

home-goods-wrapping-paper

The most BOMB ($2!!) wrapping paper from Home Goods

It’s important for all of us to remember that gift giving isn’t really thaaaat big of a deal.  I’m far away from believing in buying large amounts of crap w tons of money for unnecessary reasons.  If you receive a gift, don’t be picky about it, appreciate it.  Whatever it is, small or  large.  Strange or sentimental.  Useful or useless.  Be appreciative.  If it doesn’t work for you, you’ll find someone or some place that it does work. Someone who needs it.  I kind of can’t stand adults with Christmas lists.  Be grateful for anything and everything you receive, even if it’s as simple as a “Merry Christmas” greeting!

And if you’re giving gifts, relieve the pressure you have on yourself. Don’t worry about spending a lot of money if you don’t have it, or finding the perfect size, style or color.  Do what you can, be thoughtful, and that’s enough.  And if you forget someone, also who cares.  Give them a hug and do your best to show your appreciation.  Take them to lunch in January when they have the post-holiday blues, send them a card for Valentine’s Day – show your appreciation for the friendship whenever & however you can.

Wonderful warm people, sharing food, interesting conversations, sleeping in, huge smiles, lots of hugging, red fingernails and the sound of some blaring laughter are truly the best gifts of the season.

Enjoy December & be thoughtful!

Xx

Fresh Air In The Rain

Happy Wednesday! Happy back to school! Happy end of summer!

I’ve been savagely cooking out of Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook & unfortunately not the healthy recipes.  How she remains skinny is truly unfair, although I’ll admit my choice of recipes have definitely been the ones calling for TBLS x TBLS of butter.  I haven’t eaten butter since 2004.  I need to change my strategy with that a little bit. She’s so funny & honest in her book about the fat you’re about to inhale or the salads you should be eating – which is why I’m obsessed with her.  The real deal.

 Rainy-Days-in-Austin(2)

Besides cooking I haven’t been busy doing very much, the rain we’re having in Texas is extreme.  I never complain though, I love the way rain gives you an excuse to stay inside, cook, watch movies & light candles.

The rain outside inspires a calm & relaxing morning.  I’m the type to get increasing anxiety as the morning goes on, meaning sleeping in is no longer as easy as it once was.  The saying: “My brain during the day: Potato, potato, ching chong tomato. / My brain at night: I wonder why the Earth was placed exactly here and allowed us to provide a perfect climate to sustain life”, applies to me.

After two weeks straight of rain and staying indoors, me & my B Unit were getting a little cabin fever.  I feel bad when a dog has to stay inside through bad weather.  I saw (one of my many) girl-crush’s walking out from the trail with her two dogs in pouring down rain & feeling so envious.  She looked like how I imagine Michael Phelps felt when he kicked that South African man’s ass.  (Anyone see that?) And I was wanting to let out my inner water badass too.

Like any jealous girl, I then proceeded to my own adventure in the rain, with the B.  I told myself & Wafiq we’ll pretend we live in Portland & rain is what we do best. (?)

The adventure went well, it was wet + sweaty + muddy + buggy BUT being outside & breathing in fresh-ish air was so necessary after being cooped up for the past week.

Not to mention burn off at least a small portion of the 10lbs of Chrissy’s Mac & Cheese.

Another reason it’s totally necessary for you to adopt a dog.  You’ll feel guilty if you skip outdoor time.

Hat for the sun, turned in to hat for the rain

In other news, I’m really excited because I’m going to Minnesota for a long weekend soon… Last time I was there I was suffering from major culture shock, yikes! I laugh now because I remember how uncomfortable I was driving & talking to strangers (aka, the checkout lady at Whole Foods).   The whole American thing was freaking me out, I try to remember how grateful I felt & remind myself to continue being grateful every single day.

Which I absolutely am.  I think almost every day Wafiq and I literally smile and remind ourselves how lucky we are. We bought the Costco size package of laundry soap and toilet paper.  Don’t even get me started on being able to do our own laundry! Living posh as fuck right now.

Life is good today!

Have a great rest of the week, be thoughtful. Talk soon!

Xx

Manifesting Better Phone Skills…

After meetings x meetings x meetings x meetings we think Wafiq will receive his work permit by the end of the month.  We went to San Antonio a week or two ago for a meeting with immigration peeps & we think it went well.  Who knows, this entire journey has really opened my eyes to immigration in the U.S..  I’m actually very opinionated now, unlike before when I barely paid attention to it.  There’s some major issues going on, I’ll say that much.

 Time-To-Pick-Up-My-Slack

SO. We have a very happy house & are looking forward to the days we don’t have to hear the words immigration + meeting + money + Wafiq in the same sentences.

As for other issues – I want to put this out to the world so maybe I can manifest a better version of myself.   I noticed the past year I have been AWFUL at responding to friends phone calls, emails or texts.  I saw this quote going through my Instagram: “I’m sorry I didn’t respond to your text, I answered it in my head”.  And thought that’s me!! But on an extreme level & I’ve been feeling like shit about it.

Time-To-Pick-Up-My-Slack

I think because the last year was so0o0o0 up and down I got in a terrible habit of not talking to people. Making plans was pretty hard w/no money or schedule, and answering questions was also challenging w/no money or schedule.. or plans.   I would get a text and not respond because I was trying to think of an answer & then I would end up ignoring it completely.  The problem – that turned into a habit and throughout the year I’ve let a lot of friends & family slide through the cracks. Ew.  I’m embarrassed.

I’ve never been really good at using my phone.  I’m totally not the type to have my phone with me at ALL TIMES.  In Dubai, I preferred when my phone would run out of credit so I had an excuse not to use it.

I don’t have that excuse in the States.

Anyone else w/me on this!?  I feel like a lone alien on the planet Pluto because we are living in a time where your phone is your lifeline + your business, so we need it all the time!  And I’m noticing, people are good at having their phones ALL THE TIME – to capture every moment and respond to every email and answer every text.  I guess I should’ve been born a generation back, I feel that was my time to shine, HA!

 Time-To-Pick-Up-My-Slack

Another problem, I’m sad now that the bachelorette is over.  Whenever a season ends I feel like it’s the end of a relationship with meeee!!  Although, I wasn’t totally engaged in this season, a little too fakey fairytale to me?!? Hello 25 Ken Dolls, which one shall I chose?

What have you guys been up to?!  Watching the crazy politics happening in the U.S. right now? Snap chatting your way through the days?!  Vacationing in Cuba?! Team Kanye?!

So much going on it’s overwhelming (HA!)

Happy Wednesday, have a fantastic day & be thoughtful.

Choosing My Mood: HAPPY

I’ve been in a fantastic mood all week!  Don’t you love when that happens?  And I’m extra excited to write when I’m in a great mood – spread that energy around.

 Choosing Happy

Last week was a damper.  The whole last month had me feeling emotional.  Too much happening in America that weighs heavy on you after hearing & seeing so much of it.  Once something bad happens it kind of spirals. You know?  (Anyone watch The Secret?)

I stayed away from writing because BLAH.

 Choosing Happy

The good news – this week I’ve been feeling stell!  Such a mental decision to be happy.

When I wasn’t feeling that chipper I couldn’t figure out why everything felt soo off.  My mood wasn’t extraordinary & everything else seemed to be dragging too.

I told myself I was going to ignore the news & social media & hot conversations.  I wanted to be happy.

I had to make an effort, but thought it was worth a try.  And it worked!  Every time I do this it reminds me how welcoming other people are to such happiness & kindness.  Or I should say, how quickly you attract the same kindness you project.  People need it too.

And people that aren’t kind shouldn’t bring us down with them.  A negative person shouldn’t change a positive person.  Even though negativity is incredibly toxic, it’s worth the effort to avoid.

 Choosing Happy

If you couldn’t tell –> Kindness is basically my favorite thing on planet earth & beyond.

So, last weekend Wafiq & I spent some time at the pool + cooking some new {delicious} recipes. I went to the grocery store & as a result – I vowed not to go outside for the rest of the summer between the hours of 11:00pm – 4:00pm.  It’s the sun! KILLS. ME.

People in Texas (or Dubai), always tell me they could NEVER live in the cold when they find out I’m from Minnesota (the Arctic North).

BUT WHY?!

Winter in Minnesota is the same as Summer in Texas or Dubai. You stay inside. What’s the difference!?  At least in the winter you can layer up the clothes and manage the outdoors.  Am I wrong here?!

I suppose it all comes down to preference.

Choosing Happy

How’s everyone else doing this summer?

I’m having fun w/some new blog post ideas this month.  I’m really starting to love blogging.  It’s kind of a trick to figure out but it’s worth it – brainstorming new ideas & constantly working the creative side of my brain.

I’m loving the process.

Wafiq is surprisingly busy considering he doesn’t have a job at the moment.

And Bernice is on board with the No Outdoors between 12:00pm – 4:00pm house rule I’ve established.

As long as I stay positive & avoid outdoors between the hours of 12:00pm – 4:00pm +++ keep the cold drinks flowing –> I’m destined to have a great rest of the summer!

Talk later!

Xx

Catching Up – Why I Don’t Want Wafiq To Get A Job

Hi Hi Hi!

I feel like it’s been awhile since I did a little life update and chatted about everything going on…

 Malibu Beach

Hopefully! Wafiq will be able to start working soon (…after patiently waiting a year to figure out the visa situation.)

I was on the way to work the other day and started wondering – why don’t I want him to start working?

I would welcome the extra income with open arms & would be happy he could finally push forward in his career – BUT, for some freakish reason, I couldn’t figure out whyyyy, in the back of my mind – I did not want him to get a job.

I was almost hoping his work permit would s l o w down, or maybe never come…?!?! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! (I know, I’m terrible).

I realized, it’s because he’s not stuck in the conventional work schedule yet –>  He still has that freedom we were living with for so long & by seeing it in him, I feel happier and oddly safe?  Like – I can’t get stuck, as long as he isn’t.

What worries me about him starting a job is drowning in routine, which has always been my biggest fear.   I’m already in it,  and coming home to someone who isn’t – has been giving me l i f e .

Both of us having a full time (conventional) job freaks me out.

Constantly proving yourself to climb the ladder, follow orders, punch in / punch out. Ewwwwww.

I’m fully aware I don’t make sense to everyone.  Because everyone is not the same. For some people – working in a conventional position, with routine, fulfills their purpose.  They’re able to participate in activities that allows them to shine.

For some people, it doesn’t.  We all have different ways to fill our tank, and that’s what makes each individual so cool & special. I’m obsessed with these differences, it’s what makes each person so interesting.

My feelings: Don’t work Wafiqqqqq! Saveeeee yourrrrsellllllfffffff!

But that’s out of control. I get it.

Malibu Beach

I’ll say, from experience, there’s something about being broke that brings out the feels.  (My never-get-a-job-speech.)

When you don’t have any money, life is creative.   You don’t go buy whatever you want & do whatever you want – You figure out other ways.  Keeping up with the Joneses doesn’t exist –  fuck having a posh vacation, a new car, organic toothpaste, or a fancy purse – you’re busy figuring tomorrow out!  (<— As you can see, I’ve been dying to write a post on money… I’ll get into that rant another day.)

Not that money isn’t also incredibly wonderful, but there’s something about being pretty broke that sparkles at night.

Malibu Beach

Howeverrrr, Wafiq will start working soon whether I like it or not… BUT we’re both running our engines with optional career paths to find another, possibly unconventional, way.

[Lucky for me – our crazy minds think alike]

Other news to receiving his work permit: a driver’s license + travel permit + temp social security # + normal, every day opportunities – so we’ll be more ecstatic than you can imagine.

Our life has hit somewhat of a Pause button figuring out those technicalities, but hopefully it’s coming to the end! (Not our life, just the Pause button.)

 Malibu Beach

Being June already! We’re reserving this weekend to check in on our goals & reevaluate where we’re headed.

Anyone else taking some time to check in?  It’s crayyy zeeee how fast time flies isn’t it?! I feel like it was JUST January… shiiiiiiiiiiii

What’s everyone else up to? What do you have going on?!?  Anything spicy?  A new dog?  A new baby?  A new boyfriend?! A favorite compliment?! (love those)

Have a great summertime weekend everyone, hope your days are as happy as you dream them to be 🙂

Xx

Vacation in The New York City Emergency Room

If you follow me on Instagram you know I went to New York last weekend. Wafiq and I were especially excited to be in New York because some friends from Dubai were also in town…

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

We got in late Thursday night, went to eat {delicious} Italian, then went to sleep.

Italian Food in New York City

Beef Carpaccio @ Trattoria Trecolori {DELICIOUS!}

Friday, we decided to go to the Statue of Liberty.  Very touristy. I mean you only see this beauty in the movies – we needed a closer look. Right?!

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

From there we walked towards the One World Trade Center.  What an extremely emotional place. You would assume that, but it’s even heavier than you imagine.  Both of us were holding back tears as we walked around.

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

Our intention was to go into the museum, we even stood in line.. but backed out.  I could see a super large photo of the buildings through the museum window and my heart dropped.  We were already so emotional walking around, both of us couldn’t handle going inside.

We decided we would visit another time when we could “take the day off” after walking through. (Still gives me chills.)

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

We went back to the hotel, waited for friends to arrive, met up with them, went to another delicious Italian place for dinner, and then Wafiq and I decided to head back to the hotel.

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

Around midnight, (yes midnight – I was already in REM sleep) Wafiq woke me up saying he felt anxiety, or weight on his chest.

I told him to watch New Girl on TV. The ultimate cure to everything.

A few hours passed and he woke me up with stomach pains that wouldn’t go away.  From there they got worse… FAST.

By 8:00am we new it wasn’t stomach flu, food poising, or drama.  We had a situation on our hands.  We googled the nearest Urgent Care and off we went!

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

Urgent Care sent us straight to the Emergency Room.  The New York City Emergency Room – on Saturday morning.

Now THIS was like the movies.

We were lucky enough to get a medical bed – in the middle of the hallway. Which was pleasant.. as Wafiq had to continuously vomit and dry heave for the entire room to enjoy.

A nurse came over and said he probably had the flu.  They gave him flu medicine (?) and anti nausea medicine through an IV.

Wafiq got worse. WAY worse.

I thought I was panicking before, but I was really panicking now. I have never seen someone in so much pain, right in front of me.  His eyes were squirting out water, his body was rejecting everything.  And what was I supposed to do?

(Also, he’s very skinny. How can he throw up so much?  I mean my body has a lot to give away and work with… but his?)

After the vomiting continued to get attention we got a nurse over and she gave him morphine with a promised cat scan.

After the cat scan we got some REAL attention. The doc kinda half ran to us saying Wafiq needed his appendix out. Today.

Once we new that, we were a bit at ease.  Doctors were panicking – trying to fit him in the surgeons schedule.  But for us, the stomach pains now made sense, and we had a solution. Much better than the unknown.

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

As you can imagine, being in the New York City Emergency Room for 12 hours allowed ample time to encounter people from all walks of life. We were on a bed in the hallway next to the ambulance drop off.  At one point, a person came in on a stretcher and all Wafiq said was: “He’s dead”. (Good news, he wasn’t.)

We checked in to the ER next to an extremely buff looking man.  He appeared to have wrapped up his own hand that was projecting blood.  He sat across from Wafiq – and I managed to get a glimpse. Dripping blood, through all his fingers, definitely sliced open in a few spots. The nurse asked “On a scale from 1 – 10 how much pain are you in”.  He responded, “I feel no pain” then followed with a small smirk.

I wanted to be his friend so badly. Obviously his friend in conditions where knives and weapons were far away, possibly while he was restrained, but none the less his friend.  THIS GUY had stories.  I couldn’t stop looking at him.  I think we made eye contact. His hand was falling off – and I was mesmerized.

Then there was this jackass who frequents the ER.  I left to get chips and coffee at about 4pm and when I came back The Grinch had all kinds of comments for me:

“Look at this lady, (laughing) eating a whole meal here in the ER”  “You gotta be kidding me”  “First she got ice cream”  “Then I saw her get another ice cream” “Now she’s eating a whole meal!”  “haha and look at that, she’s even drinking”.

First of all mother f-er, I didn’t get ice cream. I WISH I had ice cream. Second, we’ve been in this God damn emergency room since 9am with an actual emergency. I NEED coffee.  Third, do you see all the other people eating?!?!?! PICK ON THEM!  Later, when I went to the restroom I had to walk past his bed and he shouted “You going to get more food?! HA!”

When we first arrived there was an old couple in a room down the hallway from us. The very skinny, elder women was on the bed, obviously sick.  Her elder husband was sitting on a chair to her side – holding her hands, with his head down praying as she slept.  This went on for hours.  Hunched over, he held her hand the entire time.  Nervous & praying.

When she left for X-Rays he took his chair, pointed it towards the door, and didn’t take his eyes off the door until she came back through. When she emerged, she excitedly pointed to her husband and told the nurse “That’s my husband!”

I believe it was a scene out of The Notebook.  Really. My eyes water remembering.  We watched them most of the day. Imagining how difficult it must be to live your whole life with someone and see them older and sick.

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

Wafiq and I went through a ROLLAR COASTER of emotions while in the ER. Sad for people who can’t afford medical attention, grateful for our health and age, frustrated to be waiting so long… Up and down all day.

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

He ended up getting out of surgery at 9:00pm and we stayed in the hospital until about 11:00pm.  We met the most wonderful & comforting nurses with an excellent surgeon (as we called him at 3:00am to ask about one of the incisions and he patiently listened and responded to our questions).

As you can imagine, the rest of the trip was spent h o r i z o  n t a l.

My Trip To New York City in the Emergency Room

New York didn’t go as planned.

We ultimately went for a surgery and came back. I don’t get to share a ton of pictures and recommendations, which I was really looking forward to.  But we came back home smiling that we’re ok. We made it home. He’s healing. I’m feeding him excessive amounts of garlic.

And New York will always be there for us to go back to.

NewYorkCity(16)

Xx.

You can’t exactly go many places without hearing music in Austin.  South Congress will likely have music coming from a couple different locations.

South Congress is great for people watching, photo opportunities, gazing at the old cars that line the streets, and enjoying a beautiful day.

Definitely add it to your list if you visit Austin.

It’s Time To Check In On Your Goals

It’s April already!  Quarter 1 is done son.   I’m torn between being excited that time is flying by, and being freaked the F out.  I try not to think about it <– Story of my life.

Check in on your quarter one goals

How has the beginning of the year gone?  If you set goals at the beginning of the year – now is the time to check-in, see what’s on track and what isn’t.

This weekend I spent some major time examining my goal situation.  Because it’s ONLY April, you have time to get back on track. (If you didn’t set goals in January – I suggest you set some t o d a y !)

Goals are the BEST way to check yourself. I’ve always been good at doing this. I also make a vision board that I stuff full of all my crazy ideas + inspiration.  Sometimes the ideas follow through, sometimes I take a drastic left turn.  But either way it’s both important and exciting to have a vision board, and/or goals written down.

Check in on your quarter one goals

I can’t image a life without written goals. REALLY.

One of my goals this quarter was to create a consistent workout plan. I don’t want to call it a fitness routine –> any routine makes me want to take a nap.

Soo.. Wafiq and I joined an outdoor boot camp. My first mistake was joining any class with Wafiq. His leg length is twice the size of mine, which full blown sucks because we do a ton of partner work.  He’s always encouraging me: “lets sprint this ramp”… (Ummmmm haven’t we been sprinting this whole God forsaken run?)  Inside I’m praying to anyone listening that I don’t pass out. Or even worse throw up on myself.  AT LEAST, I’m so exhausted I’m partially blacked out for most of the work out.

BUT GOALS.

Goals should be for your health, relationship, travel, career, home decorating.  Really anything.  I have several categories that are important to me and I work on a goal for each.

Check in on your quarter one goals

I noticed what works best for me is making some super large, big picture goals at the beginning of the year.. Then kind of forgetting them & taking it month by month. Otherwise I get overwhelmed in the big picture and end up all over the place.

At the beginning of the month I set goals for that month, then every Sunday I make mini goals for the week, stepping myself closer to achieving my monthly goals. Eventually working towards the big picture.

EEEEE I really love doing this. Who’s setting goals? Who’s on track?! What’s your strategy?! BOOM shaka laka!

Also, wow, since January I’ve been looking for a badass boss lady planner to put all my lists in and still have only managed to use a pile of post-it notes. {I love them so much} but it’s time.  Boss planner searching commencing NOW. Toodles.

The Spring To-Do List

Spring is officially here!

I’m obsessed with Spring because it finally allows me to wear floral print {everything} without needing an explanation.

 Spring(4)

It’s also the time of season that I realize stuffing my face with 3 breakfast tacos every Sunday isn’t working out well for my body.

{The shorts are out and the jiggle can’t hide.}

 Spring(5)

Spring is fresh + airy.  Time to get out of the stuffy house, open the windows, and prepare for fresh air, fresh looks, and a fresh attitude!

Spring Week: To Do List (Get er done)

1. PURGE

Spring(2)

Hardcore. Get rid of everything. After moving internationally, and having issues committing to one location for too long + traveling…  I’ve realized the importance of having L E S S.  One of the downers to living in the same place for too long is all the shit you end up collecting. Having clutter, or unnecessary things, weighs you down. I promise, one of the best feelings is having close to nothing – you can do anything! I’m a hoarder at heart but I KNOW having less brings clarity. I load up a box and drop it off before I have time to think twice. BYE.

2.  BUY TULIPS

Spring(1)

Or any flowers for that matter. You can get them super inexpensively at the grocery store and it’s worth it.  You’d be surprised the fresh attitude a tiny bouquet of flowers can bring into the house, and if there’s any time to give it a try –> it’s SPRING!  Buying a little bouquet of flowers is my new Sunday tradition and I’m currently loving it.

3.  WEAR FLOWERS

Spring(3)

You know how good fresh flowers makes you feel inside your house? Imagine you wear that feeling around….

4. FRESH FOOD

Spring(6)

Make a colorful spring salad, or buy pretty veggies. Take on some lemon cookies or strawberry shortcake.  Once you’ve purged, bought flowers, look like a flower, and feel like you’re blooming into a monarch butterfly… Nothing will top it off better than some freshly tossed salad and a homemade lemon cookie.  I’m ALL ABOUT cooking at home these days, and filling the house with that homemade scent is what you need to be doing this week.

5. GIVE FLOWERS

Spring(7)

That’s right, don’t forget to bring that happiness right inside the door of someone else.   With the Spring + Easter feelings in the air it’s super important to think about more than your own purging to-do’s.  Giving, completes the circle.  If you’re me, and won’t be going over to anyone’s house on Easter, than think of another way to give for Spring this week. Send a thank you card, make a surprise, share cookies, be extra kind…

Any other Spring MUST-do’s I’ve missed? Please share 🙂

SXSW – Create and Cultivate

Austin is A L I V E !

Although the ginormous crowds make for a pretty unbearable traffic scene, I love being in Austin for SXSW.  There’s so much great energy and the city is packed to the rim with opportunity, adventure, and activity.

SXSW(4)

I’ve been dying to get myself into a blogging conference the past few months and was lucky enough to catch Create and Cultivate in SXSW for a day full of successful female entrepreneurs giving their advice throughout 4 different panels.

SXSW(1)

Create and Cultivate is a creative conference & online platform for female entrepreneurs in the digital space. They create inspiring environments that seek to enlighten, entertain & inspire both online & offline.” Basically – you need to be following up with their blog posts if you’re a badass female. Simps.

SXSW(2)

They set up the pop up conference at Prize, downtown Austin, and Camp Laurel & Wolf set up the event space to perfection!

The day was pumped full of motivating stories that left me feeling mentally exhausted, but also encouraged to keep pushing through routine days and to always be looking for the next move.

SXSW(3)

Some of the speakers included: Jen Rubio, the Co-Founder of Away, Leura Fine, the CEO of Laurel & Wolf, Jeanine Donofrio, a food blogger of Love & Lemons, and Ashley Rose, Founder of Sugar and Cloth.

EEEEEEE How fun is that?!

SXSW(5)

After the pop up conference we took to 6th street – on the hunt for chaos. Downtown is POPPING.  Off the chizzain! Random dinosaur parades, a Mr. Robot set in the middle of the street, and all types of people and music…  I can’t wait to get back out there the rest of the week…

Anyone else in Austin for SXSW?  What events are you looking forward to?! Spill the beans please 🙂
