Recent Readings On MissBassmaster

Did You Know? It takes an average of 475 hours to write a novel

( v i a )

Books + Podcasts + Music are the three things I need.  I use them to help my mind take a break.   I want to disclose, I’m all over the place when it comes to reading.  I go through phases where I want to read about drug addiction, then Jesus Christ, then marketing, and sometimes a good fiction of a girl trapped in the woods.  The variety keeps me from getting bored & I highly recommend opening your genre preferences.

Recent Readings on MissBassmaster:

I Like You Just The Way I Am by Jenny Mollen

I first saw Jenny Mollen on Chelsea from Netflix.  She’s married to Jason Biggs.  I didn’t know these two are so hilarious until watching the show. They’re funny in the exact way I’m obsessed with.  Her book is full of honest stories throughout her life that everyone can relate to but no one would admit.  Honesty is my favorite comedy.  I was a mix of laughing & in shock throughout the whole read.   Super easy, funny & fast read.

Bossypants by Tina Fey

I wanted more from this book.  It made me feel nice inside & was funny but not too much more.  I heard really good things which is why I went back in time to read Bossypants, but I would have to say it was only okay.  You know, I’m looking for the sauce!   She might be too perfect for that.

The Power Of The Dog by Don Winslow

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get through this book, I just couldn’t!  I tried reading, restarting, trying again and again, but nothing!  It’s about the drug world & following a DEA agent named Art.  The story takes place over a long period of time & has several storylines that intertwine.  If anyone has read this book and has a review, please share it with me.  Or just tell me the ending.  Maybe I’m not Veteran enough to get through a book like this.  Or maybe it sucks.

Down The Rabbit Hole by Holly Madison

Ok, call me crazy, but I loved this book. Ha! So juicy. I used to watch The Girls Next Door & couldn’t believe these women would ever date this old guy, even with the money!   If you want gossip & to get the inside scoop into someone else’s life that is a total opposite of yours, this is the book.  I loved it. Talk about sauce.

Coreyography by Corey Feldman

I don’t know who Corey Feldman is but happened upon the book when I was going through Amazon, now I want to go back & watch his movies.   He was a young actor & eventually became addicted to drugs.  He was BFF’s with Michael Jackson.  He talks about the darkest shit in such a light way.  It made me realize you don’t know what people are going through, even while they’re functioning.  Dark, but good read.

Thug Kitchen

My cousin recommended this cookbook, I think because they say Fuck a lot.   I would say a 10 for the food education parts of the book, but some of the recipes were pretty bland.  Let’s just say, I’m not convinced I can be a Vegan after trying a couple recipes.  Although, the corn bread cake + whip cream.  YES! YESSSSSS! It is SO. GOOD.  I would recommend this book for the food education & Corn Bread Cake any day.  Also, if you like the word Fuck.

I noticed reading & listening to a variety of genres keeps the creativity side of my brain functioning.  The conversations I have with Wafiq are never dull. It’s important to keep conversations moving!  The worst is having the same conversations over and over and over again.  I noticed books, podcasts, & music bring in variety.

New topics.  New talks.

What good books have you been reading?  Nothing too depressing please 🙂

Have a great weekend & as always, be thoughtful!

Funny & Light Podcasts for Ladies

Did You Know?  The same number of Americans listen to podcasts that use Twitter.  The podcast audience is 57 million Americans in total. And while Twitter has more members than that, research shows their active user base is on-par with the overall podcast audience. ( v i a )

The people around me have likely been annoyed with my presence lately because I’m on a huge podcast kick.  I can’t stop trying to bring the light conversation style of the podcast’s into my day to day interactions – definitely confusing people.

The deal is, podcasts don’t have filters.  People sit behind a microphone and talk, about anything, and use whatever language they choose.  I’ve found this avenue of media to be extremely refreshing.

Favorite Podcasts

I had a lot of resistance towards podcasts because I’m barely a fan of TV & talking in general, if I have spare time I’ll read a book of my choosing or listen to music, or shop online – Podcasts sounded like another avenue of annoying voices.

I first forced myself into listening to a podcast when I was in the middle of a long, boring day at work and my anxiety started kicking.  I was looking for something to distract my mind & I opened the podcast app on my phone.  I landed on a random, gossipy, sans substance podcast… exactly what I needed.  Stress free people talking about Brad Pit, the real housewives and sex noises. SOLD.

Since then I’ve been glued to Podcasts.

I’m very picky.  I don’t like anything too serious.  I want something to take me out of my own head.  Anyone else have that feeling?  Overthinking the world problems & constantly diagnosing myself with terminal illnesses is an easy task, it’s removing myself from them that’s tricky.  I would love listening to funny, light conversations that mean nothing more than a good laugh.

Funny & Light Podcast’s:

Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald

This is strictly for women, and probably older women, whom have homes & families. I don’t know why/how I listen to it because it’s very out of my element but for some reason I’m hooked.  GOSSIP GOSSIP GOSSIP. Think – Real Housewives, The Bachelor, E News!, Scientology, and whatever other hot topics are in the media.  The host, Heather, used to be on Chelsea Lately and I always found her to be pretty funny so I landed here.   She’s desperate & I love it.  Spread the word!

Anna Faris Is Unqualified

YES!  This podcast is like a dream I never imagined possible.  Anna has celebrity guests on her show that she interviews & then takes calls with listener’s life questions.  She has A LOT of fun with the celebrities & doesn’t take anything too seriously.   Tons of improve & acting that I’m obsessed with!  I’ve recently started asking anyone/everyone if they want to improve with me.  I’m desperate.  So desperate, I bought this improve game and force Wafiq to play it with me on Friday nights. Current obsession. I can’t say enough with this Podcast.  Wonderful for both men & women.

By now, I think everyone has listened to this murder mystery podcast, but if you haven’t I wanted to throw it in here.  Great for long car rides.

The Chick Show

This one again, doesn’t exactly fit my demographic but I’m addicted.  These women are older than me but there’s something about listening to women older than me gossip that’s humbling.  Ha! These two ladies are hustling hard & I’m loving it.

I’m a die hard for fun, easy to listen to, not very serious podcasts.  Very drained from the hustling – do this, do that, know this, know that style media.

Podcasts are brand spanking new to me and I’m almost caught up on Anna Faris is Unqualified so send me your favorites!! Needing new material ASAP.

I’m off to rub oil on my eye lids, thank you allergies. Then prep for the weekend of SXSW adventures, let’s see if this year I can actually figure out what the F SXSW is…. Hmmmmm

Have a great weekend & be thoughtful

Loving Lately: Three Everyday Favorites

Did You Know?  Originally, scientists wore beige coats. In the late 19th century, medical professionals chose white ones. The color white was chosen because of the idea of hope and expectations for healing and recovery that the physicians would bring. ( v i a )

Boi, why you so obsessed with me?!  If the following three items had a voice, that’s what they would say. Screw monthly favorite posts, who really has time to try 1,000 products in 1 month and know what’s working and what isn’t?! Impossible.  But there are a few items that I’ve been loving lately, genuinely loving. Let’s get real, that’s what’s important to share.

Also we’re nearing the weekend, I’m planning 0 activities.  SXSW is coming to Austin the next two weekends and although I barely understand what SXSW actually is – I do know there’s a lot happening and always somewhere to be with free drinks and free phones, so I’ll be there.

For now, if you buy all three of the below items you’ll be out a cute $30 << Pretty proud to say that.

Loving Lately

White Canvas Sneakers from Target

I should start by saying I’m a lover of socks & covering feet completely.  The very first thing I look at on a guy is his shoes, if he’s wearing sandals he’s in a terrible category.  OMG I went on a dreadful eHarmony date once & the tiny guy that was supposedly 6ft tall was wearing jeans & sandals, on a first date!  No no no no no.  I don’t have very many deal breakers, but that’s one of them.  Sandals are strictly for the beach or pool.  There’s no beach or pool on this date!

Ok, back on track, I love wearing white because it’s fresh & clean and I love shoes that I can wear with socks that lace up snug.  These shoes are the winning ticket. They’re only $16.99 so when they get too dirty you can buy another pair to keep them looking fresh.  White shoes go with everything  << you’ll notice I wear them in almost all of my pictures.  I was buying stupid expensive Reebok’s before but when I found these $16.99 Target shoes, I felt like I won the lottery.  Now they’re all over my house.

Trader Joe’s Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream

I’m a nail biter.  So it’s important that 1. I have my nails painted 2. I have moisturizer on them at all times << That combo keeps me from eating them.

The key with moisturizer is to be a little greasy so it sits on my nails without soaking in completely.  This keeps the polish looking fresh, but not too greasy where I can’t touch anything without leaving behind an oily finger print.  I’ve gone through three, yes three tubes of this cream in two months.  I’m obsessed.  I’ve recently purchased another one to leave by my bed… and put on my arms, legs, feet, hands, shit anything really, right before bed. OBESSSED. (I found this other really cool article on beauty products from trader Joe’s for anyone interested: 15 Reasons to Start Buying Beauty Products from Trader Joe’s)

Wine Saver Pump with 2 Vacuum Bottle Stoppers

Shut the F up.  WOW. How did I not know this existed years ago?!  Thank you little baby Jesus for Christmas because Wafiq bought me this wine vacuum for Christmas & its changed my life!  I love wine but I love one glass, or two at night.  Then I work diligently at squeezing the cork back down the bottle in order to keep the wine crisp.  Always a fail and always frustrating.

Here’s how the wine pump & vacuum works: you place the wine vacuum stopper in the wine bottle & place the pump over the top & start pumping. Takes 2 seconds & it’s sealed with the air vacuumed out of it… ?!?!   I knew we were legit when we went to a fancy restaurant & noticed all their wine bottles had the same stoppers!  Yeah, let’s just say they were very privileged to have my presence while dining.  PS. $13.99.  I can’t. I’m done.  No.

What have you been loving?  Share & I’ll try.

Have a great weekend & be thoughtful…

Why Non Yoga People Need to Be Doing Yoga

Did You Know?  “The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart. “Nama” means bow, “as” means I, and “te” means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means “bow me you” or “I bow to you.” ” ( v i a )

This is not another Yogi post!  I prefer aggressive workouts – fighting, running, sweating, moving, hitting, pushing, jumping.  (Aggression issues?)  I grew up playing soccer & competition runs through me.  I like competing with myself, or Wafiq, whenever possible.  Recently, I decided in order to balance the muscle tightening workouts, I needed to find a way to gain flexibility.

Yoga for Anxiety

Flexible bitches are sexy.  They bend.  Any direction, any time.

And I’ve always been jealous.  Since joining a workout camp my muscles feel tighter than normal & I slowly started seeing any hint of hot girl flexibility leaving my body.   In order to quickly implement a solution I knew I needed to start Yoga.  The problem is, I wasn’t willing to compromise my daily workout camp with Yoga, so when would I find the time?!

Even though I’m NOT a morning person I thought rolling myself out of bed 30 minutes earlier to do Yoga would be manageable. At least for a month or until I came up with a Plan B.

It’s been more than a month since I made this decision, and I have shocking news to share.

I’ve been waking up every single morning & doing a Yoga Camp I found on YouTube.  This alone says A LOT.  I can’t tell you how much I despise getting up early.  I’ve never dreamed or aspired to be a morning person.  I don’t like the morning.  All the perfect people are awake at that time and I don’t fit in.

Since doing Yoga, while it’s still dark in the morning, I haven’t had any trouble waking up – I actually look forward to it. (?!?)

Yoga for anxiety

Essential Oil Diffuser: Here

However, the greatest benefit I’ve noticed from doing Yoga has not been the hot girl flexibility I was looking for, it’s been something much harder to tackle – ANXIETY.  In the last 6 months or so I’ve seen the evil side of anxiety & received a major wake up call to pay attention to it.  Although I heard Yoga helps anxiety I didn’t realize how much it would help.     Swear to baby Jesus, had I known my whole life how much Yoga would help mental health, I would’ve started as a child.

Flexibility would be an awesome perk, but it’s no longer my greatest benefit.  The mindset I’m able to take away from Yoga each morning effects my entire day.  Life changing. Yes, life changing.

 Yoga for anxiety

I know Yoga people say this all the time – but take it from a very NON Yoga person.  You have to try this in the morning!  It could change everything!

I wake up, go to my living room, turn on my little string lights so the room is still pretty dark, and practice my Yoga video of the day.  Me & my princess doggie together in the quiet with the video playing off my phone. So easy.

Here’s where you need to start:  Yoga Camp

ANYONE can do it.  No knowledge, flexibility, age or excuse required.

I recommend starting each morning like this, and really stick to it for the entire 30 days.   Have the same mentality I did.  There’s no pressure, it’s quick & easy, so why not see what happens?  Maybe you’ll gain the flexibility you’re missing, get in shape, tone your arms, or have a positive start to your day.  If you’re dealing with anxiety in any way, shape, or form – get on it!  Tomorrow morning.

Normally Yoga is fucking $$$$.  This is FREE.  FREE.  FREE.  We love FREE medicine/workouts.

I’ll follow up in a few months & let you know if I have hot girl flexibility from morning Yoga – I can’t deny that that’s important too 🙂

Yoga thoughts?!

Have a great day, stay positive, and be thoughtful.

10 Products From Amazon, A Beginners Guide

Did you know?  Prime members are driving sales for Amazon. According to a recent survey, 53% of all Amazon purchases came from Prime members (an all-time high). ( v i a )

What the F do I buy on Amazon?  That’s what I first asked my friend who mentioned she stopped going into stores because she literally orders anything she needs off Amazon.

Mmmmmkay but where do I start?  Since then, we discussed the only real problem with Amazon is knowing where to start. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t have a great browsing site which makes it tricky to find products unless you know exactly what you’re looking for.  This is why sharing is so important.

Because I’ve become loyal to Amazon & do believe it’s going to take over the world, I want to help you get on board now.  I decided I’ll give you lists every so often of products I’m buying so you have a place to start.  That’s key.  Once you get the hang of it you’ll be an addict as well & won’t even know the name Target anymore.

Here we go: 10 Products I Buy On Amazon

  1. Gel Pens – If you’re a note taking freak, you need to buy these Gel pens off Amazon.  They come in huge packages & are SUPER affordable.  I’ve been using them for my color coded notes & calendar.  I also like that they have metallic colors that show up on dark paper, last Christmas I wrote on black paper so I had to go on the hunt for a metallic pen that would show up on black.  I probably paid the same for that one pen that I did for this entire pack.

  2. Cologne – This is a little tricky but I’m loyal to never going into a mall again.  The deal with perfume & cologne is to read reviews FIRST.  Some cologne appears to be knock-off’s so beware.  However, I haven’t had an issue with that.  I read the reviews first which is usually a dead giveaway.   Perfume tends to be more affordable on Amazon than buying them in the store.

  3. Books – Especially older books, you can get them for a few dollars!  I mean why not?!  (How is Barnes & Noble still in business?!)  Usually you can’t get the best deal through Prime, so make sure you order a couple weeks ahead of time because they’ll take more than a few days to arrive.

  4. Hair Serum – I’ve wanted something to put in my hair when I feel like it needs a little moister. This serum has been doing the trick, it’s not too oily & doesn’t do anything funky to my hair.  I put it on after I brush it when I get out of the shower. I rarely use hair products – not hair spray, not often enough purple shampoo, not mousse, rarely shampoo (ha!) so I wanted something that was easy to use & that I would barely notice.

  5. Wet Brush – I don’t know why the good lord baby Jesus didn’t bless me with this brush when I was a child… I have LONG, THICK, hair & that makes brushing it a pain in the ASS. Big time.  This brush slides right through my hair, I can untangle & move on so quickly I’m barely inconvenienced.  I could cry.  If you have kids with long hair that gets tangled, buy this brush! My mom & I would have been much happier when I was a child had we had this brush.

  6. Lip Balm – I love Carmex but I also love badass ingredients. The gold mine behind this chapstick I found online has been answering all my requests.  I needed a PACK of chapsticks because they need to be found everywhere, anytime.  I can’t buy a pack with 2, that’s bullshit.  This pack of 6 is affordable, luxurious, and clean.

  7. Coconut Oil  – Obviously.  And here’s why.  You need a shit ton of coconut oil on hand at all times.  I need a jar all over the house. Buying it on amazon is a little more affordable & you can buy it in bulk or smaller jars. For example, I keep one bulk size in the kitchen and 1 smaller size in the bathroom.

  8. Eye Pads –  I’ve tried several eye pads they sell in Ulta & Sephora but haven’t been happy with them.  They all slide off?  I feel like they don’t stay moist very long & they cost a million dollars.  Anyone else?  But the eye pads online are affordable & I feel like they actual help the eye situation, especially if you pull them out of the fridge – like an ice pack to the puffy.

  9. Games – I have two things to say here:  1.  If you don’t have games in your house, yes even as an adult, you need to buy some.  2.  Buy them on amazon.  If you’re looking for somewhere to start your collection I’d say Cards Against Humanity, Cranium, and Scrabble.

  10. Moisturizer – I know I’ve mentioned this moisturizer before, but last night I noticed mine ran out & I’ll be ordering more so I thought I should throw it on this list.  I break out if ANYTHING touches my chin area, even if it’s meant to help acne – it’ll break me out.  It’s very annoying because I have to avoid so many products.  Not only does this moisturizer not break out my chin area, I think it’s actually been helping.  I’m loving the price, ingredients, and product.

 Favorite Amazon Products

A Few Tips:

  1. Reviews are your friend. I always read the reviews before I buy a product, you can usually tell right away if something is going to work or not.   Look at the majority rather than one asshole that decided to write a thorough review on a $2 item.

  2. The more reviews the better.  If you’re looking at a product & one of them has 10,000+ reviews with a 4+ rating – it’s likely a solid product.

  3. Stick to Prime.  For the most part, I buy products that are Prime.  That’s because Amazon Prime is the shit.  I think it’s $99/annually & you receive free 2 day shipping on all Prime products.  Once you start ordering you won’t be able to stop & you’ll easily get that money back in savings.

  4. Once you’re a Prime member, order everything you want.  Deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, snacks, batteries, lightbulbs – if it’s a Prime product it’ll save you a trip to the store so don’t be afraid to order the items you use every single day online, rather making a trip to the store for batteries.

  5. Amazon has an app! This is a recent discovery.  You can download the Amazon app on your phone, so if you realize you need batteries you can quickly get on the app & put batteries in your cart.  You can skip the whole list making part of life!

 Favorite Amazon Products

And that’s it for now!  10 Products I’m currently buying off Amazon. What do you buy?

If you have an item you ALWAYS buy on Amazon or a secret find that I haven’t discovered, please make my day & share.  I literally get as excited as a child with rich parents would on Christmas morning when I discover a new product to purchase off Amazon. It’s bad.

PS.  Although it does appear Amazon is my number 1 sponsor, they’re not.  I’m just aware this is the future & want to help you get on board!

Off to start a new week, it’s Monday, a fresh start!  It’s also still February which floats my boat. I went to Trader Joe’s last night, they were wrapping flowers & the store was flooded with chocolates & red + pink hearts.  Can it remain Feb for the rest of 2017? I’m going to try my best to keep it in the love making zone.

See you tomorrow, but today, remember to be thoughtful 🙂

Food, I recommend...

Never Forget Breakfast Again – Classic Oatmeal

Did You Know?  French breakfast includes tea, coffee, juice, or hot chocolate, with bread & butter, or pastries.  They prefer only sweet food, nothing with salt – no meat, no eggs.

( v i a )

Classic Oatmeal

I don’t know why I haven’t brought this up earlier as I’ve been eating oatmeal every single day since I was birthed.  My dad in particular is a major connoisseur of oatmeal as a breakfast meal & I quickly followed in his footsteps.

My dad eats his oatmeal, plain jane.  I’ve always added a wee bit of brown sugar.  But now that I hate that mother fucker sugar I had to switch up my oatmeal routine.  For easily the past year, the following is how I eat my oatmeal >> Every. Single. Morning.

 Classic Oatmeal

Mix Together:

1/2 Cup Cooked Stone Ground Oats (Boil according to package directions)

1 Tablespoon Flax Seed

1 Tablespoon Raw Honey

1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon

1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil

The key to making oatmeal specifically for your taste buds is getting the proportions right.

For example, you may prefer extra honey to make the meal sweeter.  Maybe add a little water so the oatmeal isn’t as thick.  Add an extra scoop of flax seed to give a little more crunch.  It really is all up to you.

I particularly love oatmeal with these ingredients because each of them serves a purpose.  The meal is extra filling & provides energy for the day ahead.   Not to mention the whole concoction is QUICK + EASY with no room for bull shit in any form.

Classic Oatmeal

If you research the ingredients you’ll learn how beneficial each of them can be.  Not to mention they simply taste good. Here are only some of the benefits:

Stone Ground Oatmeal – Fiber rich, helpful to maintain weight by keeping you full longer ( v i a )

Flax Seed – Among many benefits, contains tumor blocking compounds call lignans ( v i a )

Raw Honey – Anti viral, contains powerful antioxidant, stabilizes blood pressure, boosts immune function, stabilizes digestive health ( v i a )

Cinnamon – Promotes energy, prevents UTI’s, improve diabetes ( v i a )

Coconut Oil – Balances hormones, improves digestion, burns fat, and balances blood sugar ( v i a )

I used to eat Oatmeal for breakfast because my dad did, and I liked it.  To discover the benefits?? Especially when adding a few ingredients, makes me feel like a natural born genius.

 Classic Oatmeal

Because stone ground oats takes a little longer to cook, I make them a night or two before so I have a breakfast that’s ready to go. I throw the oats + mix-ins in a little container, like the ones linked below, and wa-la! Breakfast!

Like pretty much any food, the less processed & broken down it is the better, so don’t eat instant oatmeal.  Instant? Bad.  Go for the stone ground, mother earth blessed, oats. YUM.

Anyone else an oatmeal lover?   Other ride or die breakfasts that I’m missing?  I’ve been so loyal to oatmeal my entire life I can’t imagine another option – besides a sweet, huge ass Cinnamon Roll from Cinnabon – for some reason that’s resonating with me.

Have an awake morning tomorrow, and be thoughtful…

Tips, Tricks, and Ideas to Help You Clean Out Your Living Spaces

Did You Know? Hoarding disorder is a persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions because of a perceived need to save them. A person with hoarding disorder experiences distress at the thought of getting rid of the items. Excessive accumulation of items, regardless of actual value, occurs.  Compulsive hoarding affects approximately 700,000 to 1.4 million people in the U.S. and only 15% know their behaviors are irrational. ( v i a / v i a )

MissBassmaster crashed – alllllll the users I’ve been having crashed it!  Just kidding, I wish. That sounds much better than the truth, me forgetting to renew my domain name.  Procrastinating & ignoring emails that I don’t understand finally caught up to me.  Thank God for my super helpful, wonderfully intelligent friends that can fix all my problems 🙂

It’s the end of January & time to talk my favorite activity – PURGING.  The New Year, especially when things have settled down & gotten back into a routine, is the perfect time to clean out your living spaces.  I actually attempt to throw things away every single weekend, in case immigration knocks at our door and kicks Wafiq & I out of the U.S., we’ll easily be ready to catch the red eye back to Dubai :0

Getting rid of things doesn’t come naturally to me or feel comfortable.  I cried when I had to get rid of a $10 box TV and $25 bright red sofa a few years ago as I was moving. Wafiq had to pry me off my red sofa as it was sitting outside by the dumpster waiting for someone to pick up for free. (#neverforget)  In the moment, it was traumatizing.  I latch on to items because they’re tied to memories & money.

One of the better parts of leaving the United States & living out of a suit case was having to get rid of everything.  I’ve done this a few times. All of a sudden you can live with minimum items & surprisingly barely notice, so I know it’s doable.

Since moving back to Austin, finally getting an apartment, and having more than -$100 in my bank account, I’ve tried to keep a handle on the “things” I have.  If I don’t have enough room for something I take it as a sign to clean out!  To brag – I’ve been doing a fantastic job.  Border line too good?  I’m throwing things out faster than I have a chance to doubt my decision. BYEEEEEEEEE!

“Things” to get rid of TODAY:

  • Soaps, cheap lotions, old candles, old toothbrush, hand products – ANY product you don’t use
  • Unnecessary decorations

  1. Understand the term: OLD.  If it’s old, it needs to go.  The items might not be old in age, but may be old in use or appearance.  Yes, you can judge your items by physical appearance.  If you have to question anything to determine whether or not it’s old, it’s old.  Throw it away.

  2. Don’t ask yourself – What if I could use this in the future?  That’s a killer question & a no win.  If you can answer it, that would make you a fortune teller.  If you end up needing something similar in the future you’ll buy another one or find something else.  It’s not worth the clutter in your house to ask yourself: What If?  What if you never need it again?  It’s just sitting there. Taking space.

  3. Less is more. Trust me when I say, it IS better to have empty/open space than space filled with crap.  Open & empty is trending & totally chic.  If you have a big ass table that the dogs ate the legs off of, throw it away.  You don’t have money to replace it?  Don’t.  Let the space be open.  (We did this & it’s fine.)

  4. Don’t feel bad about throwing things away.  This was the hard part for me, to literally throw items in the trash can.  Especially when you see how much you throw.  When you don’t have money you never want to throw ANYTHING away.  If you can’t find a charity, or if it’s broken & a charity doesn’t make sense, then throw things in your trash can.  Yes, waste it.  Recycle it if possible, but it needs to go.  Once you come to terms with the fact that you’ll be “wasting” things, and throwing things in the trash can, you’ll get better at it.  Not ideal, but sometimes that’s your only option.

  5. Always assume you don’t need it until proven you do.  I always tell myself I don’t need whatever item I’m debating about.  If I can’t find a great reason to keep it, it’s gone!  Unless you’re currently wearing it, cooking with it, or sitting on it – you don’t need it.

A few places to consider donating: Goodwill, Half Price Books, The Salvation Army, Safe Place but it’s also super important to google local organizations that are looking for donations. Unfortunately, Texas has an overwhelming amount of homeless people so Wafiq & I will bring them extra blankets, pillows, and jackets/clothes that we’re done using. Having a place to bring a lot of the items you’re getting rid of also makes the entire process easier. Find what works for you…

I can’t imagine starting this process if you haven’t done it before.  I have very little to go through & it’s still an overwhelming day, but it’s worth it.  If you’re a newb, take it room by room.  Even closet by closet.  Do one this Saturday & another one next Saturday, eventually you’ll get there & your living space will have never felt better!  Throw on Michael Buble station from Pandora, pour a glass of wine & get to work. I’m telling you, it’s life changing & one of the most rewarding experiences I can share with you.  HA!

As follow up, I’ll need a report card from you.  I would like an A for excellent, impeccable, everything-serves-a-purpose room & an F for I’m hoarding but am scheduling with my therapist.  I would like a letter grade for each room you go through.  I’m holding you accountable!  And I’m not a fan of excuses.

Woofta! Here’s to a new week & a start to the most loving month – February.  Yes to big ass hearts & big asses, pounds of chocolate, extra kissing & hugs, romantic dinners & spreading the love – WE FREAKING NEED FEBRUARY THIS YEAR.

Now, more than ever, please remember to be extra thoughtful to all the peeps.  Just be thoughtful.  That’s it.  Nothing more.  I think that’s easy enough for everyone.   <3

Best of 2016: Findings

Did You Know? This year, 212 million copies of the IKEA catalog were printed in 29 languages and 62 editions. For comparison, that’s more than double the average world sales of the Bible each year. ( v i a )

And my last & final Best of 2016 list is: Random Findings.   Every once and awhile something pops into your life & changes it forever…

Best of 2016 Findings

1. Cravings

Starting with the obvious here, this cookbook allowed me the opportunity to appreciate cookbooks again.  I was a loyal fan of “pinteresting” recipes, but after reading this cookbook I’ve spread my wings and began the exploration of other colorful cookbooks with a hot model on the cover.  I don’t know if Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are so hot that all of a sudden I’m attracted to the steak sauce on pg 72, but it’s happening all the way from the front to the back of this book.  I haven’t tried a recipe that I haven’t fallen in love with, the only caution – calories! Portion control is necessary.

2. Amazon Prime

How/Why/Where/Who am I?! I can’t believe I haven’t discovered the glory that is Amazon Prime until this year!  Amazon Prime is the way cool people use Amazon, for a super small annual fee you can order wonderful amazon products and get 2 day shipping for free!  2 days?!  (I ordered by toothbrushes last night.) I almost skipped Christmas shopping outside my apartment all together thanks to all the glory that is Amazon Prime and I haven’t been to Target in months!  This is where we’re headed people, if you’re not on board now – it’s time.

3. Jazz Music

Jazz is the perfect background noise & has a way of making you feel fancy while sitting in your pajamas, drinking cheap wine, and reading your favorite book.  Need I say more?

4. Camp Gladiator

Camp gladiator is a work out group that I recently joined, they likely have something similar wherever you are. The reason I bring this up is because it’s the one thing that’s helped me consistently be on top of working out.  I’ve always been pretty good at going to the gym or more particularly, running – but in a group fitness camp I feel like I’m held accountable for showing up to workout, to the point where I start having FOMO when I miss one.  If you’re looking to start 2017 in a healthy way and want to stick to it, try a group camp in your area so you’re held accountable to show up.  As hesitant as I’ve been for years to join one, I’m glad I finally did.

5. Betches / My Therapist Says

These two Instagram accounts have saved my existence as an honest human being…  Don’t you love when you start following an Instagram account that clicks with everything you’ve ever felt?  These two accounts have the power to take my anxiety away with their realness and 0 fucks given attitude.  Bless them real hard.

6. Waterproof Phone Case

This summer, I was obsessing over my discovery of this $10 waterproof phone case, but I bought it near the end of the season and barely had time to use it.  I don’t know why everyone doesn’t own a couple of these. Super affordable, easy to use, and great to have on hand for a quick trip to the pool. Eeeeeek Snapchat lovers embrace.

I started listening to this band about 2 years ago but really engaged this last year, the music speaks to me!  It’s not too much of one genre.  I feel like if you’re listening to Rap, Jazz, Pop or Rock you’re really committed to that style – where this band feels somewhere in between, making it perfect when there’s people with different preferences together.  And, lucky me I got to see them live this year 🙂

8. Ikea Knives

No, I haven’t fell off my rocker and bumped my head – I can not live without these knives!  How do people cook without them!?  They STAY sharp, SUPER sharp.  And they’re $2!  I’m telling you, I can’t imagine a kitchen without these knives, change your life and buy a (sharp) knife.

That’s it!  All my favorites of the year 2016.  Is it weird I’m already over it, feeling deep into 2017?  Nothing better than a fresh year with a fresh outlook. Other wonderful new things – The Bachelor. I’ll be catching up tonight & feel pretty excited about it – I’m a Nick fan, poor guy needs a wife.

Remember, kick ass and be thoughtful!

Beauty, I recommend...

Best of 2016: Beauty

My favorite category, beauty! And while you’re dusting off the glitter & metallics from your New Years parties, make sure your make up collection includes these favorites.

Makeup was my go-to activity while I was living in Dubai, I didn’t have money to do anything else so I watched YouTube & tried to copy looks. Since then, it’s still my favorite activity.  The whole art behind makeup, the feeling of pampering your skin, the smell of moisturizers & lotions – there’s nothing better.

Here are my favorite favorites of 2016:

Beauty Favorites

1. Sheet Masks

Too easy not to do, and w my extremely dry skin there’s nothing better than throwing on a sheet mask for 30 minutes to pump in the moister.  I also struggle big w allergies so my eyes get super swollen (so does my entire face) & I’ve noticed putting these sheet masks in the refrigerator, THEN on my face, it is the biggest life saving move yet!  If nothing else, it’s 30 minutes of relief.  And with Amazon Prime, they’re super affordable for anyone.

2. Urban Decay Basics Palette

This is my holy grail of all make up products.  I do everything with it.  Highlight, shadow, contour, setting, smokey eye, conceal – I’ll try to make it happen with this pallet.  I use it almost every single day I put makeup on.

3. Eye Pads

Going with the above… If sheet masks are too much for you, these eyes masks have been the easiest step to add into my routine.  I also throw these in the refrigerator before I plan on using one & the instant cooling is priceless.  I’ve tried A LOT of eye pads this year & these are one of the only ones I’ve liked.

4. Chanel Bronzer

I have to BE bronze.  If I run out of spray tan I can’t leave the house – It’s ridiculous, but reality.  And I struggled finding a bronzer that I liked on my face.  I love this one because 1. It lasts forever 2. It’s buildable 3. Creamy and soft.  If I ever run out, I’ll be buying it for many years to come.

5. Tepez Cream

I can pronounce every word on the ingredient list & I can buy it with Amazon Prime.  Need I say more? Yes?  I can also use it as a face moisturizer without a greasy finish but tons of moisture and a lil pretty fresh scent.

6. Carli Bybel Palette

You already know!  I love this palette so much, it just works w me.  We get each other.  I keep trying other palettes & products but always go back to grabbing this ($13!!) palette. It’s everything to my makeup drawer & me.

7. Coconut Oil

Late to the game here but none the less, deserves a proper shout out.  Moisturizer for my face, acne prevention, shaving cream, body moisturizer, hair mask, dog treats, popcorn, fur mask – I use coconut oil for everything.  E V E R Y T H I N G.

8. Beauty Blender

A lil late to this game too but if you haven’t added some type of beauty blender to your make up application process you’re missing out.  Too easy, you’ll feel guilty.

9. Blue Nails

SUMMER, thank you for bringing me blue nails, it was my go to color last summer. I’m happy I stepped out of my comfort zone because the cool blue was the perfect touch to steamy hot days.

10. Pixi Toner

I’ve gone through bottles of this discovery.  BOTTLES.  I can’t say that about anything else because I’m always trying new products.  I was never a toner person so I was hesitant about this product but since buying it I haven’t strayed away.  I’m to the point where I feel like my face is dirty if I don’t use this toner after I cleanse.

What were your best beauty products of 2016??  This is my favorite category to experiment with + I love hearing what works for different people, I’ll try anything & everything.  Even considered a homemade garlic face mask not too long ago.

PS – Dousing the eyes with glitter this weekend cuz it’s my birthday, 0 Fs Given

Have a great start to 2017 and be thoughtful!

Best of 2016: TV & Movies

Did You Know? There’s no reason to feel guilty next time you indulge in your favorite shows- 70% of Netflix users binge-watch their tv series ( v i a )

The most important conversation of 2016, what was binge worthy?!  What was worth those hours missed in front of the TV??  I have a few favorites — they didn’t all come out in 2016 but I watched them in 2016, so they count.

( eye pads ) / ( socks )

I rounded up my favorite TV series I watched this year & a few of my favorite movies.

If you’re staying in & relaxing through the New Year weekend here are some binge worthy options to start your 2017 the right way!

 The Americans

The Americans

Different than other shows, I couldn’t peel myself away from the TV.  There’s suspense w a family dynamic that isn’t seen in other shows.  Lies, love, drama, murders, thrill, adventure, passion & loyalty like no other.  Also, I might be bias here, but it was refreshing/different to see non Arabs coming after America…

Jessica Jones Jessica Jones

I have a crush on this movie because I like the character so much.  A badass woman is all dreams come true, and the story line of this series is a winner for me.

 The Blacklist

I left this series during the first season but after tough convincing I came back to it, and I’m glad I did.  As soon as you think you have the series figured out, the twists keep it interesting & eliminate all room for boring.

Chelsea Netflix

I was 50/50 with Chelsea Lately & was not a huge fan of her books… BUT, this talk show is constantly inspiring me.  Yes, Chelsea Handler is inspiring me.  You can tell she developed an idea for a show that would have more than senseless humor, & rolled with it.  Teaching proper vocabulary & spelling, the importance of politics, and incorporating WORLD knowledge – couldn’t be happier about this series.

Last Man Standing

Last man Standing

I would say New Girl as my 2016 favorite but I know I’m getting old on that one.  Last Man Standing is FUNNY!  I was hesitant, but have recently blown through 5 seasons nearly back to back so I don’t think I qualify to say I’m hesitant any longer.  The writers should be getting paid big $$…

Baby Daddy

Baby Daddy

I like shows that make me laugh.  There’s something about easy, quick TV episodes that can do the trick on your casual Wednesday.

Sense 8

Sense 8

This show took me a minute, but once I was into it I was hooked and couldn’t stop.  I think I binged the entire season in 1 day.  No shame.

How to Be Single

 How To Be Single

I almost wrote an entire blog post on this movie, I still might.  What a fantastic film.  The lesson for women to be patient & appreciate their alone time is something money can’t buy.   This movie needs to be taken seriously, ha! And all 20-30 yr olds should be required to watch it w that perspective.  LOVE this movie!

Why would you watch a sad/emotional/thriller/bloody movie when you can watch a light & fluffy movie like Chef.  Is there anything better than this movie?  Can we get more made like this please?!

No Escape

No Escape

…but if you need high suspense/thriller/action – this movie is for you.  I watched it a couple times this year.

Time to share your favorite binge worthy movies & TV series of the year!  I’m having a major dry spell with TV series at the moment (forcing me to read), I’m not finding anything capable of getting me hooked – needs to be GOOD.

Enjoy this last weekend of December & remember to be thoughtful, always 🙂
