Katie Droen is here to inspire.

MissBassmaster started in 2013 after Katie made a spontaneous decision to move to Dubai. Just discovering the ability to have a website & move notebook journaling online was perfect timing to bring her adventure to life. Since then, Missbassmaster has transformed into a place sharing continued lifestyle choices, but also style, beauty, thoughts, and health. With the intention to inspire rather than imitate, Katie enjoys sharing an honest view of her daily (although not always perfect) life. Inspiring others to take risks, be independent & have confidence in their own decisions.

I’ve learned the best memories come from experiences, the key component being the people in them.

As much as I enjoy material things & beautiful places, nothing compares to the feeling of a great conversation. This is a space to encourage a thoughtful lifestyle & it began from the pleasure I find in writing.  Missbassmaster is still that, writing because I like it.  Thank you for being here & enjoying the story.
Xx, Katie

MissBassmaster’s mission is to encourage a thoughtful lifestyle through witty writing and lifestyle recommendations.

Frequenty Asked Questions

  • What is MissBassmaster’s Story? Why?

MissBassmaster started as a way to stay connected when I moved to Dubai in 2013.  I wanted to bring the other side of the Earth, home.  Bring Dubai, to the United States.  I always enjoyed writing & wanted to use a website as an easy way to communicate.   Now, Missbassmaster has become a place where I hope to encourage a thoughtful lifestyle by sharing my story.

  • How did you get the name MissBassmaster?

When I was a little, I spent a lot of time on a fishing boat (HA!).  I lived in Minnesota and spent every weekend at my cabin on a lake.  My dad signed me up for a pole casting contest called Bass Master Caster.  Somehow I managed to do a fantastic job, so being a Bass Master Caster was my “girl power” moment.  I’ve always wanted to break the mold as far as boy things vs girls things are concerned.  MissBassmaster seemed fitting.

  • Are you Vegan? Gluten Free?

Today, I don’t eat dairy and I don’t eat gluten.  I do eat meat.  I don’t know if my diet will always be this way but it is for now.  In the beginning of 2018, I had (2) separate experiences with Anaphylactic Shock that heavily influenced my diet.  Read about that experience: HERE

  • I have anxiety. How can I feel better?

I wish I could help you feel better with one sentence or one post, but anxiety doesn’t typically get better that easily.  The 2 things that have helped me the most with debilitating anxiety are Yoga every morning & talking to a counselor.  I would start there.  For more on Yoga check HERE.  For my own story with anxiety check HERE.  If you have temporary anxiety & need quick relief,  you can find 10 more quick & easy tips to try here  HERE.

  • Do you have another job?

Yes! I work as a real estate agent in Austin, Texas.  Email me if you want more info! katie@missbassmaster.com

  • Are you and Wafiq married? Getting married? Kids?

Wafiq are officially engaged!  The story of Wafiq & I can be found HERE.  We don’t have a specific plan to get married.  And we have one kid, Bernice, our dog.  For more detail on our actual wedding plans read HERE

  • When did you live in Dubai? Did you like it?

I lived in Dubai for almost 2 years, I moved back to the United States in May 2015.  As spontaneous as it sounds to move across the world, it wasn’t my first time making a big move.  After high school, I moved to Texas from Minnesota because I wanted to go to college somewhere warm.  I performed a random google search that dropped me in Austin, TX.   (I’m not supposed to say “random” in interviews, apparently it doesn’t sound smart.)

While in college I studied abroad in the Dominican Republic.  I wanted to go somewhere no one else was going so I would be completely out of my comfort zone.  I didn’t speak a word of Spanish and was in a home with my host family that didn’t speak a word of English for 1 entire week before classes started.  I cried a lot, but this turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life.

And most recently, Dubai.   Moving across the world (without previously visiting) was risky but can finally say with confidence, totally worth it!  However, was easily my most challenging move yet.

  • Do you have any tips for living abroad?

I will always encourage moving, visiting, or learning about other countries because the world is a special place to get intimate with.  My suggestions – be open to anything, don’t let fear paralyze you, and keep in mind traveling isn’t always an easy adventure or as glamorous as it appears.

Check HERE and HERE for more tips & encouragement. Also, feel free to send me an email – I love sharing the good, bad, & ugly of all things abroad OR big choices at home too!

  • How much do you love your dog?

We lick tongues. Check out why you need to adopt a doggie: HERE

  • How can we collaborate?

Shoot an email to: katie@missbassmaster.com and we’ll get to it!
